Nice gnarly stag Remington Keith ... I am guessing like most old American cutleries stag like this was not the norm

Thanks Lee, Remington stag is interesting to me. They used very little of it but when they did it's some of the prettiest I've ever seen. But then again I might be a little bias.

Here's another I forgot about but with that nice gnarly look - old Russell Green River Rope (Navy Knife) and again stag was not found very often on Russell knives... nice old stag to my eyes similar to the old Sheffield stag... Ashame this has a sliver of stag missing from mark side but couldn't leave this one behind as it was priced very fairly given good blade and cracking snap...

These old rope knives had some great stag on them

Lee and Dimitri, those old rope knives are dandy. Stag on them looks like the trunk of a tree!

Thanks guys! As best I've been able to determine, the 87 pattern last appeared in the 1926 Case catalog.

I don't know the process whether it be dyed or burnt. But Rogers knife took it very dark. I'll show my R4466. Front handle definately has something done to it where the back handle is gnarly stag. My guess is it's burnt in, Not dye.

Really hard to tell in photos, and wonder if in the end some were burnt stag and some were dyed stag - I haven't seen enough burnt vs dyed stag as examples so hard to tell for me... also after they were shaped on the frame and sanded, polished etc I think some show more variation than others in coloration pending the finishing process...

That's as good of stag as I've ever seen on a R1306.

Here is mine.

Another beauty of a R1306 Bullet Keith ... Great looking natural stag on the mark side (untouched compared to pile side... ) ... I am guessing there was some variation pending time frame which relates to a particular source or "lot" of stag being used, finisher in the shop etc..

Awesome knife Dimitri in every way ... Nicest French knife I have ever seen besides one of the coolest horticultural knives - going by the blade stamp I assume French??
