Just picked this Imperial Motorman's Tool Kit up today. Looks unused. Just some spots. Does anyone know when this was made? It is pictured on page 220 in The Standard Knife Collectors Guide Fifth Edition.

It is difficult to give a definite date on an Imperial knife - they did not use any date codes.
I found these tool kits in the 1959 Imperial Catalog here:

Also, I have one with a different handle material that was given as an advertisement. The phone number on mine appears to be from the late 50's to early 60's.

That one is also the same imitation cracked ice shell handle as the one shown in the Standard Knife Collectors Guide. I was guessing the 50's too. I just do not do much collecting of Imperial and never one of these tool sets. I have never seen one before so I grabbed it under the "if you never seen one before buy it" rule.

Back in November of 2020, I added this multi tool, eating utensils kit, to my general pocket knife accumulation. It is an UNBRANDED, one blade, three tools (a fork, a cap lifter or bottle opener and a corkscrew), one tang stamp, take apart "hobo" pattern or style of pocket knife. It separates into two sides. The knife blade and the corkscrew are on one side. The fork and the cap lifter or bottle opener are on the other side. It can be assembled so the blade and fork open from the same end, or so the blade and fork open from opposite ends. The fork being closed locks the two sides in place. The main blade back tang stamp says, "STAINLESS STEEL." It is NOT marked, but I believe the country of origin is Japan or China or .....? It did NOT need any cleaning at all. I took some pictures and here it is.

I don't know how vintage" this little French Ivory Picnic Set is. I gave it to my wife some years ago and she keeps it in the glove box and actually uses it quite a bit.

A little Colonial "Hobo" that does not come apart.
(Not sure how they expected someone to cut a steak without having the fork separate from the knife!)

Very recently, this take apart, "hobo" eating utensils, pattern or style of pocket knife, arrived in a group or lot of pocket knives that I bought. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. But, this particular pocket knife was NOT the reason for my buying the group or lot. However, as it turned out, it is most definitely a keeper. It will be a welcome addition to my general pocket knife accumulation. It is a UNION KNIFE Cᴏ̲, one blade, one tool (a fork), 4" closed, 6 3/8" overall length (blade open), 6 3/4" overall length (fork open), one tang stamp (on the fork), "hobo" pattern or style of pocket knife. The fork, back tang stamp says, "UNION (over) KNIFE Cᴏ̲ (over) NAUGATUCK" Both the knife and the fork sides separate and reassemble without effort. The knife and the fork can be opened separately or opened together, without the two being separated. The knife blade (EXTRA SHARP!!!) has a crisp half stop, with a STRONG opening and closing snap. The fork also has a crisp half stop, along with a STRONG opening and closing snap. The knife appears to have suffered some blade loss over the years. But, overall, this "hobo" eating utensils kit is still in GOOD condition. It definitely needed a good cleaning. I can't wait to use it. I took some pictures and here it is.

However, this particular "hobo" pocket knife was NOT the reason for my purchasing the group or lot. But, it will be added to my general, pocket knife accumulation. It is a COLONIAL, one blade, three tools (a fork, a spoon and a can opener), 3 1/2" closed, three tang stamps, three springs, "hobo" pattern or style of pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "COLONIAL (over) PROV. U.S.A." The fork, back tang stamp says, "STAIN (over) LESS" The spoon, back tang stamp says, "STAIN (over) LESS" The blade has an ok half stop, with no real opening or closing snap. The three tools ALL have a good half stop. The three tools ALL open and close properly. This "hobo" pocket knife is missing the bail and one handle scale. But, overall, this "hobo" pocket knife is still in GOOD, usable condition. I cleaned it up a little bit. I took some pictures and here it is.

I have to agree with QTCut5's observation regarding the use of this pattern or style of "hobo" pocket knife.
Maybe it was a clever marketing ploy to get you to buy more than one, "hobo" pocket knife.

Unlike many "Hobo" style knives, the spoon on this one is actually big enough to be useful.

Here are three sets.

They are made in Taiwan and only the knives are marked "STAINLESS STEEL" The spoons are 7" long, the forks are each 6 1/2" long and both of the knives are 6 3/8" long. Each set came in its own vinyl storage bag. The outside of each flap is embossed "MADE IN TAIWAN" The third set is also made in Taiwan. The knife is marked "ARKS GROUP (over) STAINLESS (over) TAIWAN" The spoon is 7" long, the fork is 6 1/2" long and the knife is 6 3/8" long. It came in its own vinyl storage bag. The inside of the flap is embossed "MADE IN TAIWAN" Each set is in VERY GOOD condition. I took some pictures and here they are.

Only have a couple sets. This is an A,K&B from Germany.

There's a similar NYK Co. set at the beginning of this thread. Too bad the case is pretty beat up, but the tools and blades look unused.

This is one of my Girl Scout mess kit utensil sets.
ALL original utensils (the spoon may or may not be), a vinyl plastic carrying case and the box.
The utensils consist of, a stainless steel folding knife, a stainless steel folding fork
(with a can opener & cap lifter or bottle opener) and a stainless steel spoon.
This set is by BOKER USA.
