Nowhere as colorful, but this just in. The thing was called imitation ivory in the listing, he accepted an offer of sixty nine clams. Normally I don't like to brag or state numbers, but let the word go out to be on the look out for ivory billed as bone, faux ivory, fossil, fake ivory, or micarta. The ivory Gestapo banned the sale and feebayyyy gestapo tries to stop this very activity, but the seller and I snuck one through the cracks in plain sight on the open market. And I believe the ban has made some sellers of ivory desperate to get something rather than nothing out of their valuable knives if they couldn't sell them as ivory. Before the ban this George Wostenholm I*XL would have been well north of a hundred smackers, maybe as much as two hundred. In hand it glows with luster and the grain is everything as Q says, and it's easy to see and even feel the grain on the ends. Love the old tool marked peened pins too. You can see where they were struck and each one is very different. And they peened them perfectly without cracking the piece of tusk. Recent knives with ivory often, if not more often have cracks. IMHO it's because the knife makers today do not deal with ivory on a daily basis or often enough to get the idiosyncrasies of the material. At least for me working with it for two decades teaches you things about it that take years to pick up and understand. It's not the same as bone, wood or plastic. Don't know the age, but I would bet it's at least made in the 60's or 70's if not earlier, before bans and short supplies and skyrocketing prices. But the ban has brought the price down so all you contraband smugglers and banned goods lovers like me, keep an eye out, it's bargain season on Elephant tusk. Just picked up two for rock bottom prices like you would pay for bone or micarta or wood. And they are stunning and some of the best deals I ever made.

My visit to the post office this morning resulted in these knives joining my collection. First up, a PASTOR ALEMAN (German Shepherd), single blade, 3 tool pocket knife. This knife is part of the Imperial and Colonial, Mexico connection. It required a good cleaning, I did what I could. Next is a PASTOR ALEMAN (German Shepherd), 2 blade, 1 tool pocket knife. This knife is part of the Imperial and Colonial, Mexico connection. It required a good cleaning, I did what I could. Up third, a PASTOR ALEMAN (German Shepherd), 3 blade, 2 tool pocket knife. This pocket knife has two tang stamps. It looks like it had a fourth blade or a third tool, only the stub remains. This knife is part of the Imperial and Colonial, Mexico connection. It needed a massive cleaning, it got one. Last, but not least, a CAMILLUS, 4 line, single blade, 2 tool, "Sunshine Biscuits" pocket knife. This one needs a complete makeover. I managed to free up the 2 tools which were rusted shut. I believe I'm going to outsource the restoration of this pocket knife. I took some pictures and here are the knives.

Not a mail pickup, but a "found in a dusty box" pickup. I thought this was long gone. My old boy scout knife, looking far older than my mental image of myself should allow. I think I would've gotten this in about 1982 or so. Belt clip and all. Mine is the blue Camillus, the Ulster in the 2nd pic is my Dad's that he gave me a while back. It's already cleaned up, I might as well do so with mine too.

Are those curved brass pieces supposed to be liner locks of some sort? They've never worked, too bent over to the side, but I guess that's what those are.

The locks on that Camillus are for the punch and flathead driver/caplifter, IIRC.

Great little knife, and so is your dad's Ulster.

The mailman brought me something different today. I was feeling down after a long week last Friday and on the advice of Captain Morgan ended up ordering a stag Hen and Rooster. I think this one is Spanish assembled. It's my first congress so I'm excited to give it some pocket time.

That Camillus is exactly what I lost. Still hoping it's in my parents basement somewhere. If I remember correctly those liner locks were quite stiff . I wonder if someone just bent them out of the way.

I sent the seller the same question about the knife being made in Mexico, this time I received NO reply.
So, pictured below are the items. I have a tiny amount of hope that the knife was made in Mexico. Maybe one of the Imperial or Colonial, Mexico knives. I'm not even sure about the number of blades/tools that the knife has. There was another picture of the sheath, but that's it for pictures of the knife. Hopefully it's not made in Pakistan or China. When I receive it, I'll know for sure. That is, if the knife is branded. I would love to add the knife to my "South Of The Border" collection. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Well it FINALLY arrived and I picked it up at the post office this morning, July 1, 2020. The pocket knife has 2 blades and 9 tools. The knife was made in Japan. The leather sheath was made in Mexico. Both are in excellent condition. While I was hoping that the knife was made in Mexico also, I'm not too disappointed. It's still a nice knife and I'll keep it in my truck. No cleaning was necessary. I took some pictures and here is the knife.

You rolled the dice, but it looks like you won. That's a very solid looking knife even if you don't know exactly what it is. The sheath might not have come with it originally, but seems well made.

These are two ebay purchases I got in the mail today. As you can see the
first one is a PAL CUTLERY MADE IN USA camping/utility knife. Does anyone
see a cleaning project coming up?
The second one is a Chinatown Souvenir Knife from the 1950's. Made in
Japan. The color on it is still excellent.

Thank you EeDeCe. For less than $12 total, I did just fine. I didn't know exactly what I was getting when I bought it, I know now. I didn't buy the lot for the sheath, that was more of a "bonus."

This morning my trip to the post office produced these four knives. First one is a POWR-KRAFT (not stamped 84-11 on the tang), 3 blade, swelled center, "whittler" pocket knife. The second one is an ULSTER 63 (shield missing), 3 blade, swelled center, "whittler" pocket knife. Third up is an "unbranded", 3 blade, swelled center, "whittler" pocket knife. The only clue to this one is the shield. I DO NOT care what the country of origin is for this knife. Last, a CHINESE made Remington (shield missing), single blade, 2 tool, "Bird Knife" pocket knife. It came with the lot and I'm NOT keeping it. None of the knives needed any cleaning at all. I took some pictures and here are the knives.
