Thanks Greg, I know what you mean, most of these old barlows are well worn, the wear to the bone shows a lot of pocket carry but the blades sure were not abused, C.J.B. must have really liked this knife.

That knife is twice as old as my EDC Case Barlow (10-dot) and yet the master blade wear appears identical... Yours might even have a slight edge (no pun intended ) in the belly...

That is one excellent acquisition, John. I think that's the kick in the rump I needed to get back on the "gittin' Barlows" horse after being out of commission for a while. ::nod::

Thanks Tony, you know no matter how far I stray into other patterns I always come back to the Barlow.

Just picked up an amber bone mini trapper. It was a toss up between that and the peanut but liked the size of the mini better. It's one sweet knife.
I uploaded better pictures.

Welcome to the Mini Trapper Fan Club, colin.p. If you're like some of us, the pattern will grow on you and before you know it, you'll have a different one for every month of the year. That amber bone is a classic. ::tu::

Picked this one up today. Some of the sickest color bone I have seen on a CASE.

It has a high pull, but has a model stamp. Go figure. It is a second cut knife. I think second cut stag but either way, second cut, as the color varied due to bone or stag density. The second cut Stags had no "character" so they are jigged similar to bone. She is in my pocket as I write this. There she will stay.

Along with my other Hunter EDCs for comparison. Lower knife in the multi knife knife pic is in Steve's 2nd book page 207. Same exact knife pictured not a similar one.

Blades and frames may look short in the pics but they are not. Just the pic angle.

Anyone wonder if knife has seen a sheath? It has. Still unused and definitely NOT sharpened but sheathed at some point. Hard to tell if not in hand. Anyone see evidence of that? Look at the pile side, It has been sheathed, no doubt. This is not an opinion, but fact based on heavy analysis and research. That is a non rhetorical question.

I don't see any evidence on the bolsters. I would think there would be scratching or a little abrasion there with sheath carry. But then I would said the handles were jigged bone going by the pictures.

I too have acquired an affection for mini-trappers. Don't have a lot of them but very much like what I have.

Hey ~Q~. How about you do a little show and tell of your mini-trappers. ::woot::

Thanks for the compliment Larry.

Hey Steve, exactly my friend. I hit it with a light blue magic cleaning. Prior to that, pile side pivot bolster had very fine scratches that were parallel to the blade. In other words, like dragging on a sheath clasp on the inside of the a sheath. I sheathed the other 6265 in the pics and it exhibited the same exact fine scratches.
I am of the opinion that is definitely second cut. Second cut stag after hours on a loupe, comparing to other bone and stag knives and looking at exterior and cross cut sections of a antler shed. It has the tiniest of a chip next to lower bolster on the pile side. Just a nick but enough for me to see "inside" the handle material as well.
Second cut bone and stag take the same dye differently than "first cut" due to the bone density.
Additionally, several books I have do not list second cut bone, only second cut stag.
BTW, never looked at the books prior to my determination as to not skew my observations and judgement. That is second cut stag.

The second cuts can be mis- marked as far as handle model number designation. This knife says "6" which of course would normally indicate bone. With the second cuts the model number may vary.

Regards, Jerry

Thanks Jtx. It is a rather mind blowing knife as far as the handles. Goes without saying that the snap, action, zero play, etc are what you expect from a XX Hunter.
I don't carry my collection knives and I am funny when I buy a knife regardless of condition. Before I pull the trigger on a knife, my mind is made already, collection or carry. I never mix the two categories.
Bought this as an EDC. Actually broke my rule and pondered putting it on display or away for about all of 2 seconds. Then it went in my pocket. All three Hunters I posted above are my carry knives. The brownish 6265 cut a deer's bullet holed heart out two years ago. This new one will likely carve up a harvest or three this year also.
She is never sharpened near mint with some spots and that tinnnny chip.
Gonna add pocket wear and use to the list for sure.

Have a great and happy Independence Day. God bless America.

Jerry

Ahhh, jerryd, jerryd, jerryd...your request is music to my ears and I am most delighted to oblige. However, I just wish you had asked me five years ago before I had culled my Case herd (which, unfortunately, was before I had formally joined the AAPK family as an active member). My accumulation was stampeding out of control; so, I had to make a "Sophie's Choice" as to which ones to keep and which ones to let go. My criteria came down to keeping only the 107W patterns (because...well, wharncliffes, you know!); all the other 07s were sold off en masse. As usual, shortly thereafter, whenever I make radical decisions that result in selling cherished pieces of my beloved collection, I ended up regretting it. Since then, however, I have managed to rein in the uncontrolled mini T acquisitions and maintain my focus almost exclusively on 107Ws...with a few notable exceptions. However, since they aren't "New Case Pick-Ups" per se, out of respect to the prevailing theme of this thread I have posted them in their very own thread which I'm hoping will entice other Case Mini Trapper aficionados, collectors, fanatics, innocent bystanders and/or curious onlookers to share their newly acquired or long owned mini Ts for all to enjoy: Ode To The 07...check it out and please be sure to add your contribution.

Cheers & Aloha,

~Q~

Jerry. All those are really high end, great examples of 65's.

I received this in the mail today and it quit possibly is the most mint knife I own yet. 6299. This one will be center stage in my case tested display.

I heard a little something about that. Sounds like it might be pretty special. When do we get to see the finished product?

It's been a slow process as they really aren't my focus. But if and when the opportunity to pick up a good one comes up I try to get it if I can.
