A pair of stainless knives made by Camillus for a football Sunday. Barlow for the snacks, demo knife for the libations (and anything that doesn't want to open on demand ::nod::).

Thanks for the comments last page Bomba. The old bones are often stunning. In that rut lately, just wish Voos Co. would have helped us narrow down the years on their stamps a little better. Who knows when it was made. All I know is I love the bones and the knife.

Thanks Greg, it is a very well made knife. Boker etched the full tang, which takes a lot more work than finishing the handle after pinning and glue up.

Carrying this Chute, complete with lashing holes, from Neil Schutte. Light, fast and sharp, extremely well made.

The only thing we know for sure is that the Rogers bone puts the knife somewhere between the turn of the 20th and 1962, when Rogers stopped making jigged bone knife handles in lieu of Delrin. I have two of those knives (yours is much cleaner than either of mine) and I suspect they were both made in roughly the same time period. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say 1930s or maybe early '40s, but I could be whistlin' Dixie... ::shrug::

Speaking of Rogers bone, I carried the "fake" Rogers bone snowshoe again along with my wicked sharp sawcut bone Sabre Japan Barlow.

Let me in on the trade secrests, I have no idea, how can one know if it's 30s, 40s, 50's or what? I'd like to know. I didn't know when they started using it either, just that the factory burnt about when you say they stopped making it. I doubt this is older than 1900 too. And your Case there is pretty good looking, nice approximation of Rogers Bone, very good looking scals. I have considered one of those myself just because many of them have great bone.

Everything I know about Rogers bone I learned from AAPK...and Mr. Bernard Levine.

http://pweb.netcom.com/~brlevine/bonehand.txt

P.S. I'm rather impressed that pweb.netcom.com continues to serve documents to this day. I remember the old Netcom CLI internet days very well, and I suspect it's possible there could be repositories still online under that domain ~25 years later.

There was another Case approximation of Rogers bone 5 years after the snowshoe was made, also during (or right after?) the Parker years and with his footprint on it (being another NKCA knife). Also carries the "ROG" model number prefix, so you know it's "Rogers" bone. ::smirk:: I think they did a more credible job approximating the "randomness" of the jigging Rogers displays, but they still didn't get it quite right. Both knives look good in their own rights, I just don't care for the tactic of labeling them "Rogers" down to the model stamp.

Pic respectfully borrowed from Carl Bradshaw's very excellent (I personally consider it authoritative) NKCA knives site, a long-time resident of my favorites folder:

Very nice cow knife, OH. Looks like a Camillus build so you know the steel is excellent. ::tu::

After last night's post I was inspired to carry these two today: a real Rogers bone Imperial cow knife and a Sargent/Queen NKCA club trapper with wonderful blade stamps (too deep to call them etches).
