Cold steel has never actually made knives, they design knives and contract the manufacture out. They had those like QS's knife made by camillus. The most recent traditional knife they offered was made by queen.

Montanaman, we have out first morning down into the upper 60's since May. And cool is knice. Great scales on those blade also.

I say that because when they went from the finely crafted cut co and earlier walden knives with bone handles to the swinden assembly and delrin handles the knives became very different.

I hear you, what year-ish was that would you say? I assume about like Case and a lot of American manufacturing went re-tooling and cost cutting in the the 80s-90s and were never the same.IMHO. But it would be nice to know about when the quality fell off so I can avoid those years forward. I saw a 1968-73 Schrade with great bones, but wondered if those were years they were already in decline and lesser knives which I don't really want. Their poor years would be good to know to avoid. Any opinions on that would be great, I'm new to the brand.

The early 60's is when the swinden assembly and delrin occurred. Keep in mind though, I'm not saying those schrades are bad and should be avoided (they are still good knives and a big part of my collection), but just that they are not quite as nice as the premium old world craftsmanship of the old schrades. Some of the not so old schrades like the 1980's heritage series and 1985 red bone set are really nice.
