A fly in the ointment of Ornithology.
Nice pictures Joe.

I took some drastic action because I was being overrun by Grackles and Mourning Doves. I cut off all bird food even tho I knew the risk of losing more desirable species. So, the Cardinals have remained as have abundant Robins. Next step is to return to feeding and see if I can avoid the excessive eaters.

Splish Splash, I'm taking a bath. I couldn't get a shot of him down in the water but he had a complete bath, head to toe.

Feral cat checking out the procedure.
Feral cat, should be administered with a Lead Sleeping Pill. They do untold damage over here to our native bird and mammal population.

Thanks Cudgee. Quite a contrast in the names of our two birds, referring to the length of those names. My Robin; your Chirpy Yellow-Rumped Thornbill.

Visiting with my Son here in Seattle and went on an owl prowl last night. Got some pics of this barred owl. It posed for us. Very exciting to see and be so close.

I have suspended all bird feeding at my place. The state wildlife department have advised folks to do so because of a mysterious illness that is rapidly spreading among the birds. Grackels, starlings, and blue jays were three species that seem to be particularly threatened. I sure miss the show outside my office window.

I suspended my bird feeding a couple of weeks ago before news of the health issue. Just figured it was really unnecessary for me to be feeding congregations of Grackles during the lush Kentucky summers. Same thinking for the Mourning Doves.

I quit feeding back in the spring. Once all the spring berries and so forth start getting ripe and the migrants are mostly gone, I stop.

I'm going to pull my feeders tomorrow. All I'm seeing is sparrows. Was fun watching the young ones learning about the feeder.

We rarely get blue jays at our feeders but see them sometimes, usually feeding on acorns. Don’t see many grackles here unless I’m in town. Don’t recall ever seeing one at our feeders.
I shoot starlings on sight when I get the chance.

They’re an introduced species and a real nuisance. A flock can empty a feeder real quick!

The sparrows are not happy about the feeder being gone. The greedy little buggers need to fend for themselves and teach their kids to also. No more free lunch!

While visiting my son in Seattle last week I was able to get this Junco nest in a small depression in the ground. They were working on their 2nd brood of this summer. Wound up with 4 eggs total.

Just couldn't get any good eagle pic's while in Washington State. But this one will do. Also pics of a very small female ducks with her brood. Don't know what breed of duck it is but very small.
