All About Pocket Knives

Thanks Doglegg, bought it a couple years ago at a local arts festival. Capt. John H is a long line tuna fisherman. He also get Marlin and bill fish occasionally and makes these out of the bill. I saw it and was on it immediately. Good thing too, since then I've never seen him at an art festival or public market event.

Here is a an 8 3/8" fixed blade with a 3 7/8" drop point blade marked "R W Loveless/Design/Beretta U.S.A." which i found on ebay. I think this is a Hattori H-359. The "Hattori Collector" discusses the Beretta 201 but does not mention it with this hard synthetic handle. However i am almost certain it is the same knife.

Thinly ground, shaving sharp and feels great in hand. This would be a fine dedicated hunting knife, 'for flesh only'.

Roland, that one sure has clean lines. Did you just get it or have it a while?

Ebay auction June 21 2018. Brand new to me. I paid $61 which is on the high side unless you know it is actually a Hattori knife.

I got one last year and I'm very happy with it. One of the best knives I've ever purchased.

Thanks Ken. I was hoping you might see my post. Your article did not mention this handle option but the measurements & blade profile & Loveless etch confirms it to be Hattori made.

That is an intriguing and lovely knife, Roland. I see the Scandinavian knives (not the tourist knives) as understated elegance. As I understand it they are fine cutters, as well. I have been lurking on that scene for some time now, and have never owned anything like a Scandinavian pattern fixed blade. But I did see one finally that caught my eye and hopefully it is in the mailstream. One by someone (the maker, not the seller) in Bulgaria named Jelio.

Speaking of understated elegance TRiver, wow is all I can say. Beautiful curve on the blade is very smooth, what is that? Doesn't seem like a clip or drop point or anything I know. Love the makers mark too, although can't tell what it is under magnification. Beautiful wood, horn, the nickel dividers. Those Bulgarians know how to make knives. Fabulous knife and work of art. Man! Oooooooooooooeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

That marlin bill dagger is very unique Ivoryman.

Both of those Bark Rivers are really striking! First time I have seen those patterns of blade.

Cleaned up this Western L66. Gave it a nice sharp edge. Some jimping on the spine. Some JB weld to seal around the blade at the guard. Then a new 138-4 sheath from TripleK leather. Nice little knife.

Here's the newest addition to my "monster knife" section. This thing is HUGE at 17 3/4" OAL and 2 3/4 lbs!!! The Cold Steel reproduction of an 1849 Rifleman's Knife.

That's a pair of great looking older Queens Q! I like the older knives myself. My latest is shown below, made between 1934 and 1964 based on the serif Case stamp, a Model 652-5, a 5 inch blade, chrome plated with jigged red bone handles. I don't think this has been sharpened. Non factory sheath is shown. This from a AAPK store owner.
