All About Pocket Knives

Sorry for the delayed response Jerryd, I've had these for a while, it was more fun talk'in them over with Johnnie R.- he loved the scout knife. The last one I purchased/traded, (can't remember now) was from Mr. B.(Het!!) and was the Remington R3333 not pictured. I actually have settled down in my collection, My start and first collection is very diverse and has a wide range of Cutlery stamps and rarely sees new additions. The second collection is "all" Remington, which is my main drive, focus and apparent addiction. Rocky

The damaged Awl on my Imperial

Dave I look at a lot of scout knives and without a doubt that is the most common "injury" you'll find. Those leather punches were just never intended to be used as a pry bar but it seems that's how a lot of them meet their demise.

Phil how true about punch blade's, it's a shame some folk's don't know how to use a knife...

This is my first bone handle Utica and I'll never pry anything with it.

That's a beauty W.B. It's not easy to find scout knives in that condition. I think Utica made some excellent quality knives.

I'm guessing this is a 60's era Craftsman with a interesting carry attachment.

I'm not sure this would work very well...

I think that attachment apparatus was designed specifically to fit the web belt used in official Scout uniforms.

Here are a few scouts/campers from my collection. Going from left to right in the picture the first 8 are "official" scout knives and the others are "unofficial". From left to right are a Camillus (straight line) scout whittler, Remington RS3333, Cattaraugus D2589 Whitt-L-Kraft, LF&C Universal, Ulster Knife Co., Remington RS4233, Remington RS4783, Kutmaster Utica N.Y. Girl Scouts, Western Boulder Colo., Case XX U.S.A. 1970 ten dots 6445R, Case XX U.S.A. No dots 640045R, and Case Tested Rough Black 6445R.

The box is a reproduction.

Here's a few more "unofficial" scout patterns. Cattaraugus 42219, Kent N.Y. City, L.L. Bean Inc. Freeport, Me., and Craftsman. I suspect all but the a Cat were made by Camillus.

nice pile

Took a peek in my pile here a while back and discovered I didn't have a Camillus 1047 double line Scout. Remedied that this past weekend and fortunately the seller only lived 75 miles away and is a fast shipper. Came in today's mail. It cleaned up quickly and very nicely. Just a tad shy of factory condition but good enough for this po' boy.

WelderBob that's a nice Morley. May have to see if I can find one.

I sure won't disagree about the Craftsman being made by Ulster. My guess that Camillus made them is based on understanding that Camillus made a lot of scouts on contract for others. Ulster probably did the same. There's no doubt a lot of others on this forum that know more about the subject than me!

Knice scout Jerry....very knice!!

I got this one back from Elvis. It had a broken pen blade and the main blade was lazy. He replaced the pen blade and welded the corners of the tang to square them off again to restore the snap on the main blade. Wonderful repair job. Its a pretty rare and hard to find Remington scout knife and well worth restoring. Mark.

That is a beautiful Remington Scout Mark, love the scales and I am sure Elvis did a great job as usual. I would EDC that anytime not only for casual use but to show her off a time or two.
