I'm not sure, Quicky, but I think it is pewter or something similar. Maybe an aluminum alloy, because it is pretty lightweight.

Picked up a couple Pal 36 knives. One with original sheath, I think. One without sheath. Thanks for looking.

USSR hunting knife produced in the 70's by Production plant of the Moscow Society of Hunters and Fishermens (Производственного комбината Московского Общества охотников и рыболовов (ПК МООР). Classics of the Soviet knife industry. :D
The back of the blade is also sharpened.

Like the slender look of that blade. Nice stocks as well.

Eustace have you used your Moscow Hunter's knife ? does it have a name ? maybe "Nikita Special" ?
In the 'West' we tend to think of Soviet era Russian items being of low quality, but perhaps this propaganda we have been taught, i don't know.
How is the quality of the steel in the Moscow Hunter ?

The knife in the catalog is recorded as "Hunting knife model 2". Мanifactured in two modifications - carbon steel U10A and stainless steel 4h13 (420 analogue)

In fact, I have very good impressions from the Russian y10a. Used to produce files. It sharpens easy to frightening sharpness. However, it rusts very easily.
My knife is 4x13 and for now I have no impressions - I got it today.

Great knife Eustace. Thanks for posting. I really like seeing the old German and Russian knives from that era and back through both world wars. Cool relics. Sweet one.
