Had to dig it out.Made by Valley Forge Cutlery Co Newark NJ All blades stamped except the can opener.Three of the reinforcements are missing so someone must have really abused this one.Still scary sharp.

Got this one yesterday at an antique mall kiosk from a guy who deals in knives and Scout memorabilia. He labeled the knife as made from 62 - 65, can anyone tell me any more about this Official BSA Ulster - it is unused except for storage wear? Thanks, OH

Ed Holbrooks book, Official Scout Blades shows that knife as having been made from c.1966-1976. There's not much I can add except to say that's one of the nicer examples of that knife I've seen.

I will caution you that those things are highly addictive.

Joe Kerr's "600 Scout Knives" says this was the "Soutmaster's Model" circa 1966-1976 like Phil said above. This was my second Boy Scout knife purchased by parents in 1969 and the only official Scout knife that I'm aware that has the unique textured sawcut handles. This was BSA model #1036 and I was told at one time the first stainless steel official Scout knife. In 1998 Joe Kerr put a value of this model in your condition at around $150. Most certainly a very fine example and a connection worth checking in on from time-to-time. Might I ask what you paid? Happy New Year, Tom

Thank you Phil and Tom for the great information - really helps me to understand where this knife fits into the scheme with other contemporary Scout Knives. Tom - I left the antique mall yesterday thinking I had paid too much for the knife until I read what you posted on the value. The guy was asking $75.00 but he discounted it to $60.00 and also sold me an older, empty two-piece six-package Case box I wanted for $5.00 - so I took the total deal. $50.00 was what I wanted to pay (max) for the Ulster BSA, but I have never seen one before (that I remember) and wanted it for my modest BSA collection. Ps. I was a Boy Scout, then Explorer Scout, from Fall 1966 through early 1974 - so this knife fits perfectly into my Boy Scout years. In fact I was both a Soldier in the ARNG and an Explorer Scout during 1973 - one foot in a man's world with a foot still in a boys world!

The blade etch is there, but extremely light - I have it in this picture as good as I going to capture it. OH

Here is a great old, circa 1943, Robeson 643645 scout/utility in the Perma-Lube variation.

The knife has bronze bearings on the ends of the backsprings upon which the blades bear. These knives open and close like silk.

This and its predecessor, the MasterCraft 643645 are the two most rare Robeson scout/utilities.

I purchased this knife today off Ebay using money our office staff gave me as a retirement gift.

Well for Phil's sake I thought I would post these here. KUTMASTER SCOUT in celluloid stripes and a TUMS/Natures Remedy advertiser made by Imperial, looks kind of like mother of toilet seat. Even some tiny file work done in the liners. And the FOREST MASTER made by Colonial.
