That is one good looker! The Wilbert seems to be getting all the attention, but that Carrier is no slouch either. I don't think that I have seen (in person) a Cronk and Carrier, or one with just the Carrier stamp.
Nobody has mentioned that the Carrier is pearl.All the Carriers I've had were stamped like this one.

Great examples throughout this thread, but the last few models shown by Ripster, peanut740, and ObsidianEdge are simply fantastic.

What a run of superb examples.
Some are in show-stopping condition, e.g., Mason’s Schrade, and ObsidianEdge’s Schrade and Challenge, with the etched blade.
The jigging on the handle covers of the Challenge displays maximal “definition”.
Peanut740: What tipped you off that the maker of the Florida Hardware Co. salesman’s sample was Challenge Cutlery?

For one thing ,look at the clip blade that Mike posted.Same handles,shape,bolsters etc.,other that having a clip and not a spear blade they are the same.I've had a couple other FHC,one was unquestionably Challenge, the other was in my opinion also.
I've owned and have handled 1000's of knives,if you are observant and compare,you can figure it out.

He does have an beautiful Ulster ( my opinion) made etched Maher and Grosh. He likes to sell, but not that one. I've got pictures of it

I thought that your Florida Hardware branded Challenge had jigged bone handle covers that looked very close to those of this 4-1/2-inch Griffon/XX/B' PORT CT. Both sides of my knife are brown mustard colored, with a pebbly/pocked, semi-smoothed-out jigging texture, that may have been an effect intended by the factory, and not caused by carry wear.
Goins says many Griffon knives were manufactured elsewhere, and given that Griffon and Challenge both had Bridgeport, Connecticut facilities, a business collaboration would have quite feasible.
Do you see any basis for a kinship?

Another great example of a NYK from ObsidianEdge, with a neat blade etch.
Here is the Challenge catalog confirmation for the "Florida Hdwe. Co." model posted by peanut740.
The catalog illustration shows the clip point model but lists the spear blade model as an option.
Note the same model number on the back of the blade to the catalog : 9306.
Nice Griffon knife, stumpstalker. I'd be happy to look into that model for you but would need a handle length and a sharper picture.

That is super. You have produced documentation that the Florida Hardware Co. knife peanut740 displays was made by Challenge.
The Griffon I show is 4-1/2 inch closed. The image is from a flatbed scanner, as I have no camera. I will try to produce a real photo. Thanks for offering to examine it.
