Sasquatch: First, belated happy birthday especially if it was anytime recent. Second, I've been looking at those scrimshaw Shrades. You have provided the best picture of one. You may have pushed me over the edge.

The blade looks very similar to a sgian dubh. Maybe it was made by a Highlander who had gone frontiersman!! Very unique. ::tu::

Your wife gave you a fine gift! Can't go wrong with a Ka-Bar! ::tu:: ::tu:: Sure!! We all know what one looks like........but we ain't above lookin' at 'em over and over..........we're collectors for Pete's sake!! ::rotflol:: ::rotflol:: Go ahead and post that pic! ::tu::

Thank you very much for the birthday wishes! (it was yesterday, I turned 29................again! ::rotflol:: ::rotflol:: ::rotflol::)
The Sharpfinger in my pic is a 1987 edition in mint condition with original box and paperwork. It was purchased right here in the AAPK Member Stores. If you're interested:

Also FYI, Bear MGC is making a Sharpfinger now in J-ville AL. I guess they thought there was a hole in the American made knife line up after Schrade shut down and decided to fill it. The steel isn't quite as thick as the Schrades but it's well made, durable, inexpensive, and very useful. Here are pics of the one I have:

Note: Puma is also making a Sharpfinger now. I haven't had my hands on one yet so I can't tell you if they are good quality or not. I don't know if these knives are the "good stuff" made in Germany or possible Chinese Pumas. Below are stock photos of the micarta and stag versions:

I do have a couple of the Shrades. One with giraffe bone and the other ivory with damascus. These are both from Dale (Orvet).
But now with your photos sasquatch I may investigate the scrimshaw pieces.

That blade is bone of some kind and we got it in a native American shop. Here is the pic of the other. Sorry it's dark. The lamp made a bad reflection and I turned it off.

Sweet fixed blades everyone! ::ds::

I didn't see one exactly like this, forgive me if I missed it. I just picked this beauty up at auction, didn't pay anywhere near what the price tag suggests. Case 10 dot Bowie in box with sheath. I think it's pretty nice looking. ::nod::

Redrider that's a dandy knife. ::tu:: I don't think I've encountered one quite like it.

I believe that's Daniel Boone, Phil. But they used to tease him and call him Conway Twitty when he'd go to the clubs in Boonesboro and Harrodsburg. ::tu:: ::tu::

One of my great---?---grandfather's came into Kentucky with ol' Daniel and settled Boonesboro. His name is on the monument at old Fort Boonesboro. ::tu::

Boy, I sure screwed that one up!! ::facepalm:: Dadgum bifocals!! ::doh::

Ha! I guess it's supposed to be Jim Bowie, David's older brother.

Didn't he and Daniel Boone both check out at the Alamo? I watched the Billy Bob Thornton version recently and it was pretty good. The knife Bowie carried was about twice the knife of this one with a coffin type handle. I think knife7 has one.

Here's an old 1966 NICKER 3587......
I "think" (key word think) it may be the
same small knife that came in the
Puma piggy back TWIN set 3588.
However this one may have come seperate,
as it has its own sheath..
Hope someone that knows may post in here
Thanks in advance....

For those of you who were asking when I first posted this one; I carried it in the field this hunting season and gave it a good workout both on game and in camp. I didn't deliberately try to damage it but I worked it hard. The knife did very well. It takes a wicked edge and lends itself well to a wide variety of duties. I had some reservations about tang strength because it is hidden but it showed no signs of weakness under hard use. Bang for the buck, this Silver Stag is top notch in my book. There are better knives out there but most of them will cost you more than this one. ::tu::

Thanks Tongueriver. It's a Parker - Edwards, Jacksonville AL, Bench made by Randall Gilbreath 1986, 1 of 1500, #247, 15 1/2" OAL. I bought it new in '86 and have been using it ever since. :D

Taking a cue from someone on here,I bought a couple of those magnetic tool strips to display some fixed blade knives. They work so well that I'm going to buy a few more(about $13 apiece at my local hardware store).Supposedly they will support a 30 lb. tool and I beleive it. I accidentally put two of them face to face and had to slide them apart.
