Hi TPK. Per Wikipedia, "Vanadium is a chemical element with the symbol V and atomic number 23. It is a hard, silvery-grey, ductile, malleable transition metal. The elemental metal is rarely found in nature, but once isolated artificially, the formation of an oxide layer (passivation) somewhat stabilizes the free metal against further oxidation."

With that hammer and sickle stamp it looks like there might be a bit of USSR in that knife as well. Do you come across the Hammer and sickle often on knives there?

Hay, Trace! How are you?
In fact, I have never seen a knife made in the USSR with a sickle and hammer stamp. I am interested in Pocket knives produced in USSR and I have a lot. There is no factory with such marking. Knives with such stamp are made only in Bulgaria - at the factory in Veliko Tarnovo and in the village of Bukovets. JerryD. has such a knife :D

Another impressive group you have there. Nice! Coming back to the group before, which one is the second from the right? I really like that one a lot! Love how the handels look on that one! Wish I had one of them. Thanks for your time.

Hi Skip,
Ok, so it sounds like it has to do with both the hardness and the rust resistiveness. Sorry I didn't search for the answer myself. I just thought you already knew the answer. Didn't want to cause you work.

After my GEC 93 Rams Foot was stolen, dweb 1897 took pity on me and sent his to me. Doug I am forever in your debt. It came today and it's fantastic. I'm at a loss for words. Your generosity just blows my mind. I can never thank you enough.

That GEC Ram Foot certainly is a looker, no doubt about it. But, tell us honestly, jerryd, how does it stack up against that Pakistani Frost? ::tounge::

Nice recovery bomb, Doug.

Like the difference between Shaquille O'Neal on the basketball court and Pipi Longstocking.

When they run out of room on the tang, they use CAR instead of CARBON.

But I did compare it with the Rough Rider Micarta Work Knife and the Rough Rider stands up very well to the GEC. Both have VERY positive half-stops and gator snap. Both came out of the box/tube with initial sharp blades, no wobble and nicely centered blades. And fit & finish on both are what you would like to see. Both knives are very impressive and the same size. The RR is a little thicker.

That comparison may irritate some folks but it is what it is. ::shrug::

It's not a problem Tom. I'm retired, so whatever I do now, it's definitely NOT work, it's a pleasure. ::handshake::

For some reason I like the Muskrat pattern, been using a 77OT for years when I finish up making boneless venison chops. Great to trim tiny pieces of silver skin or fat that were missed during processing.
Saw this 197X-198X Camillus #20 a while back on ebay, it had some discoloration on the blades. It tempted me too long with a buy it now with free shipping. The discoloration appeared to be tar, like some one tried to cut tar paper with both blades. ::shrug:: What ever it was it came off without much effort. Walks and talks like a good one.
