Decide what you think is reasonable and make an offer. What do you have to lose? All he can do is say no.

Don't be surprised if he does get a little owley. I'm only saying I have seen posts in the past which indicated that. Not a lot but some.

I only paid $42,08 & $5,10 ship for mine on 3-3-13 but all I got was the knife and I still feel like that was a great deal.

You have a PM. By the way, I think that was a fair offer.

Vit that guy is very strange! I offered him $125 for that knife several months back and he declined as well.

I won an auction today for a #72. It looks pretty scruffy, but it was cheap and I want to see what all the fuss is about! I'll post a pic when it arrives - if y'all promise not to laugh at the condition...

Once you've caught the 72 fever you never laugh.

I see the DITWit is sucker-hunting again. Both of those offers are WAY more than fair and I trust the DITWit to properly represent a truly minty knife like I trust Congress to do their jobs.
I should gather some friends and inundate him with lowball offers to drive home the fact that he's going to sit on that knife for years if he thinks he's getting north of $130 for it...and only if it turns out to have ZERO flaws.

Ok I got my second double sided sabre ground 1047 Boy Scout in yesterday and I was able to make a few observations on these mysterious creatures. First is a pic of the knife itself.
These next pics show that the double sabre ground blades have no swedge on the pile side. Somewhat curious to me .
In the next photo is a single sabre ground 1047 Boy scout blade and it has a swedge on the mark and pile side. Go figure

Thanks doglegg! Those are all first generation bone handled 72's likely made in 1946. You can tell because the pen blade and the master are paired on one side and the coping blade is the single.these were only made in this configuration for a short period before the blade configuration was changed.

Thanks Joe! That's one of the things l find very stimulating about collecting these 72's. There are several little variations and anomalies that aren't really evident to the casual looker that makes the hunt very satisfying. Plus they are still relatively inexpensive. A just for fun side note.

Thanks for the added info. I noticed the blade difference. 1946!!! they are older than me but not by much. I have a few but none like that.

Speaking as a "casual looker", this thread is sure correcting that deficiency as I discover more and more about "what has got to be pretty close to the perfect knife" (T.J Murphy via Jerry), and my own #72 cost $00.00 minus shipping, which sure fits the "relatively inexpensive" category too.

T.J. Murphy may even be right, who knows?
