Thanks for the diagramm Jerryd but this RR has something like the "side scale" you see on your posted diagramm inbetween the two blades that is as high as the bone scales on each side. It comes up to the same highth as the two grips is what I'm saying. Understand what I mean? The 2 blades can never rub or scratch each other because theres a "wall" between them. It's like two compartments. I thought there might be some name or term for it.

Thanks
Tom

Just delivered from ssk, a S&M E/O Cotton Sampler in Stag. Wish all could see this in person. Flawless F&F, half stop, 4" closed; The mighty blade is 3 1/8 " long by 1" in width.

Tom, following up on what Jerry posted, the scale also is called a liner and probably there are other names for it also. Answering your question about the height of the center liner/scale, I dug into a box of random knives and pulled out several that have the full sized liner as your knife has. One was folding hunter, a Western 062, a Parker-Edwards mini-trapper, a Kabar 1003 and a Ranger that has two liners, it has 3 blades and 3 back springs. And then there are others with the cut out scale or liner. Thinking about how the knives are constructed, it appears the knives with the full sized liner are easier to make, that is the blades are straight so crinking the blades to fit in the well is not needed. By crinking the blades a knife can a bit more narrow. Does that make sense?

QS, that is a beauty! ::woot::

TPK wrote:Well I can't really compete with the last two picks but non the less, this is a pic of my first Rough Rider. I bought a small one first so I could see how good they are made. I'm happy with it. For the price, it's a really nice knife. Might buy one or two more. They have some good looking Stockman & Sowbelly Knives that I like. Oh and I have a question on this knife. It has a brass liner between the 2 blades so that each blade is in it's own little compartment. Never seen this before. Is there any term for that?

Thanks for the info. Tom
Tom, glad there is no competition going on. I have a couple of RR's and they both are well made knives. Good pick up. ::tu::

Hi Treefarmer,

Thanks for your informative post. In the second to last line you called it a "full sized liner ". That's the fitting description phrase I was looking for. Not that it makes any big difference or anything but I just had to put a name on it for myself. Thanks! :D And yes that makes sence and here again the word "well" went straight into my "knife vocabulary". Good deal!

QS you scored again on that Cotton Sampler! Nice! ::tu::

Last thing I remembered...saying I'd be sitting on the sidelines and skipping this pattern. The more people were saying how much they liked them...decided to check it out. Glad I did. Feels good in the hand. I really like it. Sambar Stag 12 on the way ::facepalm::

Steve, I'm afraid it's 4 1/32", so it's a little over your limit to arm wrestle for. :D

Glad you like those Richard. For the money, you can’t beat those and that yellow synthetic is pretty impressive when you get it in hand.
I got a haul yesterday. First up was one that Roland, KJ gave me w/ the others I purchased from him. It’s a J Beal Sheffield lobster pearl knife.
2nd a Boker buffalo handle lockback
3rd is a Pink Awabi (Shell) Lady Leg from GEC
4th is a Pearl Gents Knife from GEC
5th is a Cattle Knife in Kingwood from GEC and
6th is a GEC stag #12 Toothpick.
All are really nice knives.
