A few new to me scout's, Camillus four line with what I think are celuloid handles (maybe plastic) the first one of these I've had. They look in good shape for their age but I'm a little unsure about them.

A couple of girl scout's, Utica featherweight and Ulster Dwight Divine with the scale's I love....brown bone....

It`s been quite some time since I found a good old scout knife. The most common official scout knives to find are Remington and Ulster. Just check e-bay there are quite a few listed every week, between the two companies they made literally millions of them.

The ones you don`t see very often are the Junior Scout knives, these were merely a slightly shorter and narrower knife. Same blade arrangement handle material, etc.

In this case the Ulster Jr. scout knife measures in at 3 3/8" long X 5/8" wide compared to it`s bigger brother the model #1502 which is 3 5/8" long X 3/4" wide. Not a very big difference, made a bit smaller and lighter for small boys to use, also the blades were easier to open with less spring tension.

The Ulster Jr. scout was made between 1923, the first year they started making "official" scout knives, and 1926 when they stopped making the smaller Jr. scout model. Also in 1926 they switched over to the 3-piece can opener which my knife has so it is real easy to date this knife exactly to 1926, the knife is 87 years old! Another thing to note is Ulster only used grooved bolsters starting in 1926 which this knife has as well. With a 3 year window of production versus a 17 year run for the standard #1502 you can see why they are not found too often and I suspect the short production run was due to poor sales.

I finally found a nice one of these to add to my collection after decades of searching for one.

Here's a few I may or may not have posted before.Small one on the top of pic 71013.027(3rd pic) is an Ulster Dwight Devine.Sadly there is a small piece of bone missing from the mark side scale.

They all are great but the one with the red bone is just gorgeous. You have some very fine knives.

Thanks for the kind words.That knife is an old New York Knife Co and the scales actually look pink! Don't think they are faded as both are the same shade.

It's like starting a camp fire....gathering, chopping, splitting, busting over the knee, using a knife and ferro rod to start.....it's all the build up!

You guy's are very right. I find myself spending more and more time searching for knives over the net and at the local sales. I live near Washington court house,ohio so I do git to see lots of good knives and sometimes just hunting for a good one is a lot of fun,especially when you find it.
