Steve that stockman is fantastic. I love the blade selection on it. WOW!

In addition to a couple of knives I received in a trade, dogleg "bombed" me with a Parker Edwards mini-trapper and a Remington Cutlery pick. He's not sure if the pick is an original or a reproduction? Either way, the Alabama made knife and the pick were a complete surprise!

So my older brother from another mother who lives in the middle of the top of a bastion of Liberalism and I worked for the same company (Amdahl) in the 80's. It was a GREAT company to work for and started by Gene Amdahl who (amongst many things) formulated Amdahl's law, which states a fundamental limitation of parallel computing. So in my mailbox today was an unexpected box from Rockford Illinois filled with Amdahl trinkets that brought back some wonderful memories this afternoon.

The black key on the bottom left was used to open the side panels of an Amdahl 580 and jerryd6818 will tell you that the chips were mounted in an 11-by-11 array on multi-layer boards called Multi-Chip Carriers (MCCs) that were positioned in high-airflow for cooling. The MCCs were mounted horizontally in a large rectangular frame. The MCCs slid into a complex physical connection system. The processor "side panels" interconnected the system, providing clock propagation delays that maintained race-free synchronous operation at relatively high clock frequencies (15–18 ns base clock cycles). This processor box was cooled by high-speed fans generating horizontal air flow across the MCCs.

Amdahl is one of the few systems I never worked on. Most people never even knew that there was "clone" mini & mainframe computer HW long before the PC clones. The companies I worked for that used IBM systems were True Blue shops - no Amdahl allowed!

It was said in the Data Processing world of the '60s, '70s & '80s, "you can never make a mistake by going blue". Many D.P. professionals adhered to that philosophy like glue.
