Just bought this Robeson and I think it's a early one, all blades stamped and a patent date on the punch.

I came across this old Ulster cut from a 1936 catalog while digging for other information.

Robeson pretty much stamped all blades up until 1940.

How is the master stamped?

I suppose there's some calculation to be done re' the patent date, APR 25, 1905. A patent was good for so many years and could be renewed only so many times, so a maxinum number of years should be obtainable that the patent date would still be on that punch.

I've seen Robeson punches without the patent date, so I know they made knives without it.

17 years from the date the patent was issued.

The master is stamped Robeson with Shuredge in script.

Of course, all the punch blades that had already been produced with the date would continue to be used until they ran out.

As to the tang stamp; there has to be a third line, probably "U.S.A."

Tom Kalcevic, in Knives Can Talk!, dates the ROBESON / ShurEdge / U.S.A. stamp 1916 to 1939.

Adding Dimitri's seventeen years to 1905 gives us 1922.

So, the knife probably dates between 1916 and 1922 or so.

Having bought one of the new GEC #15 EO Boys Knife this week (a reproduction of the original NYKC BSA knife) caused me to rummage through the attic looking for my box of vintage BSA Handbooks. So far I have found a few advertisements and instructional pages on Scout knives that I thought you gents might like to see. This is the first NYKC advertisement, printed in the first (1911) Scout Handbook; NYKC was the only pocketknife manufacturer advertising in the first handbook. OH

These two pages are from the 1944 Edition of the Scout Fieldbook and include the Second Class Scout knife requirements. OH

In 1911 NYKC was the ONLY company making an official Boy Scout knife. They had that market all to themselves until 1923. That's when Remington and Ulster got in on the action.

This is my first scout knife and I was a bit confused about what it is. It is a Camillus that is tang stamped"Camillus,NY" so it is a 3 line stamp without the USA. That I have saw but the configuration is what has me confused. It is configured like the army knife and not like the Camillus scout that I have listed in their old advertising but there's no shield or US military markings. I have been told and assume that it is a 1946 to 1956 from the tang and iron"steel" bolsters.
I am looking for a history of the configuration and when it changed and any information about this old bone handled scout plus what would be good to clean the bolsters

Can you give a better description of the stamp or a good close-up pic of the stamp? Being it has steel bolsters and caps and probably frame, liners and bail and looking at the can opener, I would say that it is WWII. I've also noticed in my searches that the Mil-Spec WWII Camillus knives had the ringed bolsters such as yours. Are the frame and liners steel? I'm guessing WWII.

TJ they are brass. The tang is marked "Camillus,New York" in all block letters with Camillus over New York. Its identical to the Camillus 3 line but without the USA from 1946 to 1956. Thanks in advance for any information.

Scored my Granddaughter a U.S. made GSA knife

Nice gift for your granddaughter Dogg. Those Kutmaster Girl Scout knives have some dandy steel and I'd about as soon have one in my pocket as any of the Boy Scout knives.

I do a daily search of ebay for Boy Scout knives and I'm always amused at how many people list those as BOY Scout knives rather than GIRL Scout knives.
