Next a Bulldog Trapper. Don't have a scale but immediately noticed its heft; seems heavier than other Trappers I have, mostly Case. Probably due to the volume of the stag scales. Impressive quality. The engraving on the blade of two moose is in gold, blue, and green. I believe Europeans refer to them as elk rather than moose.

QS the scales on those, are they elk/moose? I thought I heard it suggested that they were elk antler. But I don't know for sure. ::shrug::

doglegg, I believe the scales are just European deer stag. I was confused initially because the description mentions elk (which we call moose). But as near as I can see that elk refers only to the etching on the blade. The handle is simply listed as stag antler.

Great find, QS. I have that exact knife in green bone, love the finger grooves and jigging plus it's pretty slender in pocket for a big stockman. I've been a big fan of Boker's Solingen knives for a while - I think they give Case and Buck a real run for their money. Now I'm gonna have to chase down the red version. ::facepalm::

I love that the Germans are unafraid of just bolting some monster hunks of antler onto the side of a pocket knife and getting it out the door, though I realize some of my fellow AAPKers prefer a slimmer stag profile.

I'm more or less resigned to the fact that I'll probably be getting one of those bone Tidioutes as an "impulse" purchase when my Northfield reservation is finally called in. ::facepalm::

I have an absolute mess of new or just new-to-me knives of note and more on the way. I'm gonna wait til they've all arrived to take and post photos.

Completely agree with your comments Tsar. It may be that the Bokers made outside of Solingen as in Argentina, or Spain or wherever, might be as well made as the Solingen but I believe that the German made will always have more cachet than the others; this, if for no other reason than that the Bokers originated in Germany. I estimate they will hold their value better than those from elsewhere.

The BD Trapper is a good example of what you are referring to. The Germans are not known for their subtlety so I can imagine a cutler bending over his work table and saying, "So you want stag? I give you stag! "

Snagged the two GEC, a graff & schmidt and case pen knife yesterday, the rooster this morning. The g&s sold me with the handles and is actually a good little knife. Snappy, with firm half-stops, locks up tight, nice build. My pick of the litter is the boys knife, love the trim. I cannot keep away from it, hand..pocket..hand..pocket..hand, shirt-shine!!~Jon

Is the pattern number (52) stamped on the pile side of the main blade tang? I ask because like the 53 I have, I can't find any information on a 52. It's not in any of the catalogs I have access to. It appears to have a long line tang stamp. Is that correct?

I didn't know the g&s would be considered a boys knife. But guess it actually would be one, the GEC is my pick. I can see now that I need to find me another one, maybe a LP with some swedge work. I'm keeping this one for my pocket :D ~Jon

This vintage ANVIL Big Cattle Knife came today. Made by Colonial. 4". Can anyone estimate the date of this? Or have other info on this label? The only tang info reads ANVIL Prov. U.S.A. plus a patent number.
