Why thank you doglegg! It is a pickup from our mutual friend kootenayjoe and I will detail it in another thread. The GEC is also from Roland. He does have a fine eye for knives. ::nod::

Just got these this week. They are prototypes made for J Russell Green River Works in 1977. The etching is done by Aurum Etchings. Per Sam Shortes of Aurum Etchings there were less than six made of each knife and there was no production run made. Sam Shortes stated that these were utility knives and the collector market was not there for this type of knife. I think there might be a third one out there on the Hunter model. There was a set of three made by Russell in 1976 (Dadley, Buffalo Skinner and Hunter) to commemorate the Bicentennial and "The Knives that Won the West", these two came in the 1976 individual boxes.

These two came in earlier this month but I only got around to puttin a sharpenin on the Schrade last night. The seller had cleaned them but did accept my offer, very happy with them. The dating for the 861 I took from an 861 Orvet has for sale in the AAPK store.

I know..believe me, I know..that's what is called a itchy trigger finger.. ::dang:: it's an 863 from the bay, with what appears to be the tang buffed slap off of it.. ::facepalm:: ~jp

Jon, half that many would have been a great day. An 863 is on my list as well. And what a great looking bunch of bone on the other ones. ::tu::

What knife are you talking about? Is it Jon's 863?

That looks like an ulster main blade from their version of the 863. Same knife essentially, both were made in the same ellenville factory. That could explain why it's not stamped since it's in schrade clothing.

Nice ones, bigbore. I have the same S&M with a spear blade and I really like that knife. It is almost too pretty to carry. :D
