JR - poor quality so far....very poor. Don't rush out and buy one especially if you plan on using it. Now, as a collectible......for the shelf.....with the BSA logo.....ok.

Found this beauty on the Bay. Although it is not an official Boy Scouts knife I hope you bear with me. I wonder if anybody cold tell me more about this knife.
There´s a tang stamp on the main blade "MADE IN USA" and a "CAN OPENER" on the can opener but no maker to be seen anywhere.
Who could have made those? Camillus maybe?m How old could it be?

It was nicely preserved and has a lovely patina. Unfortunately there was some rust too so I had to clean it up a bit. I´ve tried to save as much of the patina I could.
It still walks and talks and has a nice snap to it.
You gotta love those pocket worn bone handles.....

Looks knife like an Imperial to me.

Edit: That's a beautiful knife. Great pick up. The bone looks Camillus. With that can opener, I'd say pre-1950 for sure. I think they used a two piece can opener in the '40s. The steel pins make me think WWII

Edit #2: If it was made for Sears and the steel pins indicate WWII -- I believe I saw someplace that all knife production was curtailed during the war except for military contracts. Maybe the "Made In USA" was not exclusive to Sears. If it were not for the can opener and lack of shield, I would say it's a dead ringer for Camillus's "Army Engineers and Marine Corps Utility Knife". All food for thought and open to interpretation.

According to the "Kastor list", Camillus contracted knives for Sears & Roebuck with the "Made In USA" tang stamp from 1924 - 1965. I have a Carpenter's & Whittler's knife (72 & clones) with that stamp. I've gone on the assumption it was made by Camillus.

You're talking about Frank's knife, the scout/utility knife?

Thank you all for shining some light on this one. I believe that Jerry is right about the steel pins (and bolsters). It looks a bit like a poor-boy-knife without nickel silver or brass but in war times those metals are reserved for the military. So it looks like WWII or shortly after and Imperial or Camillus.

This one's going to be available in the auction for Johnnie Rotten this week. Case red bone 6445R 7 dot from 1973. Never used or sharpened. It's a nice one.

I need some help with a problem I can't solve with a knife currently listed on eBay. The seller has had numerous knives listed on eBay over the past few years with hand file-work on the backsprings of older Scout knives. I won't judge on the customizations done since I think they were fairly represented in the descriptions.

Here's my problem; usually the Dwight Devine era MOP knives (1926-1928) had only the Dwight Devine & Sons tang stamp on the main blade and screwdriver and not the Ulster Knife Co. tang stamp that appeared on the later (1942-1947) Albert and Henry Baer MOP Ulster knife. Interestingly enough that later MOP knife didn't use the Dwight Devine & Sons tang stamp on the main blade it used Ulster Knife Co. N.Y. instead. I'm wondering if what he really has is a transitional knife with the main blade stock from Dwight Devine and the screwdriver stock from Albert and Henry Baer's Ulster. That would sync-up with his 1941 dating.

Any thoughts on this one?

I would not bid on any pearl handled scout/utility knife from that seller.

He is a purveyor of reworked knives.

Thanks Gentlemen - the voice in my head said to get a second opinion knowing the sellers reputation. My daddy always said that a leopard never changes its spots, guess the same holds true for some knife purveyors. I'll pass on this one.

Look at the blades, the shield and the bolsters.

Compare their condition/finish to that of the pearl handles.

Personally, I do not think those handles are original and have been recently added.

And the box looks much better than the knife.
