All About Pocket Knives

The last one is the little 8 bladed OG or CG. I think it has iron liners. An unusual and pretty well made little knife.

The blade is very thin on the end and a little sharp. I think they were used by Doctor's or pharmacist in count out pills or mixing powder potions, or by painters in putting the oil based paint on their palettes or after that I really don't know. I don't know that a painter would want to get paint on those beautiful handles. Bob had a copy of an old catalogue in the add but it did not explain use.

I'm not really fond of the mandatory overtime that was recently bestowed upon me at work but it has allowed to buy a few knives that I otherwise would have had to pass on.

Been looking at these Viper EZ Opens for awhile so I figured "what the heck". And yes, it was delivered on a Sunday. Next time I get one of those pop up surveys on the USPS website I'll be sure to convey my gratitude.

I am highly impressed with the workmanship of the Italian CK-exclusive folders I've handled and I've read a lot of good things about the action and construction of those Viper teardrops. Thankfully they haven't gone the way of the GEC lolly scramble so I can continue biding my time before I finally crack and get one.

As it is on the Lionsteels, the grind and swedging on the blade looks immaculate as does the carbon fiber used for the handles. The sheepsfoot Lionsteel is one of the "cleanest" and most modern-looking traditional style folders I've ever encountered. The Italians are really starting to make their mark in cutlery.

Railsplitter, No need to apologize for your photos. IMO they are fine, au naturel, which I favor. I am shameless in providing substandard photos for reasons known only to me. Your indoor photos are excellent.

From my personal point of view, I much prefer a clear, bright, in focus photo to a "staged" photo. That doesn't mean I dislike a good bright, clear, in focus staged photo, it just means I subscribe to the KISS method of picture taking. (maybe because I have no imagination for that kind of thing? )

I hear ya, Jerry. I have no imagination for that kind of thing either. My photos usually contain the knife and either that orange cutting board or the ugly grey shingle-like siding on my house as a background. Not very creative at all but it's really just the knife that I want to show.

I do get better pics outdoors but they aren't any more creative than that.

Cool one Rail, been eye balling them for some time becasue I love a good Bullet End EZ. But I'm not an open frame fan, and I like a good snap open and closed. Nothing to do with the knife I know, but it tickles me. But I'd love some review if you got any. And I don't know anything about the car, but I know the song word for word and love the band. Best Canadian 3 piece ever. Not even close. Can't wait for Rush hour. Peart can't be beat either.

Hey Ivoryman! Thanks for chiming in. The action on the Viper EZ Open is something that I'm not sure I can get used to. Today will my first time carrying the knife and I'll know a little more about how I like it after work.

The action is smooth and flawless by design but you have to push the blade almost all the way closed before it lightly snaps into the detent. Not a flaw of course. Just the way the action is designed. It takes some getting used to and I'm not quite sure if I'll get used to it or not. I like at least a little bit of snap but prefer a good solid snap on closing. Opening snap and half stop snap are good on this knife but closing snap is virtually non existent. The blade just kind of settles into place when it's almost closed. One day of carry should give me a more educated opinion but right now I'm on the fence.

I agree with your sentiments on the band. Those guys have been a positive influence in my life for the last 42 years. Saw them for the first time right here in Springfield on the day I turned 15 years old. My Uncle doesn't really own a Red Barchetta but I don't have to tell you how I''d spend my Sunday afternoons if he did.

RIck, I have that exact knife and the canvas Micarta one. I love those Vipers. You are going to love that one.

Thanks for the encouragement, Mark. I honestly am rather smitten with the knife. I just need to get used to the action and I'm hoping that happens today.

I really like a good spring with enough snap to make me sit up and take notice. And a closed frame pretty much I guess and it's good to get that kind of review. Appreciate it. And all my opinion is irrelevant if you like the knife and the way it works, and believe me the looks had me hooked immediately. Here I am years later still debating. Great to hear the other side of it and your 2 cents.

How about that? Always learning something new on AAPK. What do you suppose is the reason to change model numbers? I saw a bunch of new/Chinese Old Timers at a roadside stand the other day, I didn't bother to even pick one up. Not that it matters to somebody who needs a knife and that is what they want to use.

Just in is this minty Camillus Stockman from Dale (Orvet).

Well I got this knife in today from Kootenay Joe and I am absolutely blown away. This knife is what a Marine Drill Instructor would expect from his finest recruit. Roland described it as being dressed in a formal black tuxedo. I am and have always been a fool for deep, dense ebony handles and I do believe these are the best I have ever seen. A custom folder by John Lloyd that I am proud to own. The spring to half stop and open is unlike any knife I have ever seen.Crisp and exact.
