I agree 100%. The first time I saw it was a few years ago as I was driving the Great River Road along the Mississippi. I was headed North, and a Southbound train on the tracks adjacent to the road went by with the locos adorned in that paint scheme. I immediately reversed direction and followed alongside for 10 miles or so.

Here is the new logo, and new look since the CP merger, not nearly as striking imo.

CP has really increased their footprint now, from Canada into Mexico. Hope they're not overextended.

My brother sent me this AMTRAK Heritage picture. I think someone sent it to him, because it looks like he's mowing hay under the powerlines. Those powerlines pretty much cut our farm in half.

*edit- that's an ALC-42.

Interesting picture, John, I had forgotten about that look for Amtrak. Thanks for giving this thread something new.

Theo, riding in the engine or sleeping in the caboose, these must have been sensational experiences. This is true at any age but especially if you were a youngster at the time. These must certainly be treasured memories.

Very cool memories, Theo. I remember in kindergarten/elementary school visiting the railroad with my dad and pap, both were B&O carmen. So I never got but 1 or 2 opportunities to ride in a diesel. But my dad did run an electromagnetic crane for loading scrap metal and I was in it often. The only maintenance that Burro type crane got was him spitting Redman chewing tobacco on the cable reel.

I remember being in an airhouse that my pap worked out of in the West Bound Repair Yards. Also being in the offices in the tower and East Bound Repair Yards. My dad didn't work in the locomotive shop until he was close to retirement, around 2010, and that's after a lot of restrictions were put in place to keep non-employees out, for safety reasons.

The railroad was a much different place when I was a kid.

Wow! What a cool thing to do as a kid. I always wanted to hop on a train when I was kid, (and become a hobo ::paranoid:: ) but never got the chance... maybe for the best .... as far as the hobo part anyway... ::paranoid:: ::shrug::
