Great additions Greg and Joe ...

Joe - as I mentioned in other thread I find that Am Shear blade/tang quite interesting and after going back through this whole thread I can not find another folding hunter blade that is similar (I have seen this on fixed blade hunters/bowies)... is there something inside the liner to hold cutting edge up when closed? Just trying to figure out without a kick how the cutting edge sits without hitting the bottom of the frame wells....

If bass-akward can ever be understood, this is it.

I have checked my other large hunters and of course they have a kick. This knife apparently lands on its edge.
While this knife has a respectable spring it is noticeably lighter that my other hunters.
I sharpened it yesterday, (minimally) all along its edge.
You can see, slightly out of focus, where it lands on its edge on the spring at the choil.
I thought maybe there was a step up on the spring to accommodate the tang. Cancel that....
Oh wait! I know, early planned obsolescence.

Roger, beautiful 1920's! The blade shape they use is my favorite of the large coke bottles.

I have posted this knife before,but maybe not in this thread.Greg mentioned the Utica didn't have a etch,but this one has enough for both . Excelsior 1880-84.

Roger I should have kept my yap closed. That one has enough etch for two or three knives.

It's a paperweight. Gary Pasko (eBay seller lary3) makes them. He takes photos of knife boxes and attaches them to antique glass,paperweights,bowls etc.He does a nice job with them.Case actually gave him a license to do use there old labels.

Not much to say about that one but WOW Roger ... That Excelsior is one beauty in all ways!! Was the Forest King Hunter still made by Northfield after they took over Excelsior in 1884?? Just curious and don't know the answer but I had read that the Excelsior stamp was maintained by Northfield even after 1884 and used on knives... Either way that is one nice score!!

Lee I don't know. I have seen an Excelsior lockback hunter that looked to be a dead ringer for a Northfield.I believe the Forest King with the reverse etch is an original Excelsior.
