My latest Buck is this 103. It's something I've had my eye on for quite some time and due to the generosity of Phil (Philco) I now have one. I'll never be able to thank you enough Phil for such a great gift. Makes me wish I still hunted so I could get out and skin something with it.

It is never too late to go hunting - come on down to eastern NC in November, we'll go visit Cherry Point and go drop some venison too - you will get to skin one with that terrific knife! I have plenty of places to hunt and room to put you up. By the way, your knife was made in 2007 - I really think the blade design on the 103 will make short work of skinning a whitetail. OH

Colonel -- A trip to NC would be enjoyable. There's nearly a dozen guys I went through boot camp with or was in VN with, living there. What a generous offer. I'm not against hunting but I just can't bring myself to kill what I won't eat and I just flat don't like venison. I'll leave that for all you guys that do like it.
dogg -- Thanks.

Jerry, I've joined you in this thread as a recipient of AAPK member and moderator Philco's generosity. An older Buck 103 Skinner (with the fourth Micarta spacer) has been on my "must own" list for a long time - I've looked for and bid on several, but never connected. Phil read a recent exchange between you and I concerning the Buck 103 - then he mailed me one! Believe me, I was stunned when I opened the package - I am very proud to own (finally) a pristine example of one of these fine Buck knives and I am deeply appreciative of Phil and his legendary generosity. Bruce - OH

Contratulations Colonel. Now I see why you wanted one so bad. That Phil, bless his heart. He's a wild and crazy guy. Are you going to use it to skin your deer this fall?

Jerry, this knife appears to be unused (just think - it was made about the time I was in High School), but yes - I am going to skin a deer with it because it is a gift from Phil, so skinning a deer needs to be part of the knife's lore, and because for such a long time I have wanted to skin one out with a 103. OH

I thought the little Buck 426 was the first Buck I could ever get as sharp as I wished.
But no matter what I do it won't slice paper cleanly.
So besides one blade on my China Buck 382 I have struck out on Bucks.

Case SS never gives me any trouble. I have only had to fight one carbon steel blade on an unmarked cattle knife but I even tamed that.
The little 426 is the only "modern" Buck I have along with the China 386. The secondary blade on the China Buck is nowhere nearly as good as the primary.
On the 426 I can get it to pluck at my fingers. I can feel NO difference on either side of the blade as far as the edge leaning one way or the other. But it hangs up and tears paper at least 50% as much as it slices it.

I've been looking at picture's and chart's trying to date this 110 and I'm thinking 72 - 74, am I close ?
It has some big blocky bolster's, almost like it wasn't finished...is that common ?
