Well since I talked about unnatural materials,I'll post another unnatural farmer.I hope this thread isn't getting too creepy.

This DE has done it's business,yet retains quite a bit of beauty.Shapleigh had Schrade contracting this time.Schrade also made their own ivory cell in a shadow pattern during the Schrade Cutlery years.I do not know if Schrade sold this bolstered pattern in ivory cell.

I know Shapleigh had Empire and Schrade contract this knife in bone also.The Shapleigh posted earlier most likely was made before Schrade Cutlery was formed and was made by Empire,as far as I can tell.As stated before,not much difference in Schrade and Empire farmers.

Oh man, one of my favorite brands Lyle! That's in incredible condition too!

Thanks Perry,handles and frame are nice,but the blades are pretty worn. The blades on these will look ok until compared with full ones,especially the pruner. Spear blades and pruners are hard to judge.

I posted this knife a while back,I suppose it's good to post it again here. It is marked R4633,when it is supposed to be an R3853. I will show it's brothers also. Three of these!!

Now a comparison with a correct Remington farmers jack,R3853. The correct knife is on top and is marked Remington UMC inside circle, USA on bottom of outside of circle, c 1924-1933.

Josh, I don't know what those R4633s are,Price says that number should be a cattle pattern.

They are in the Remington farmers jack frame. Everything seems right except that "pruner?" blade,and I think it's an authentic Remington blade. I would like to see an actual R4633 cattle knife.

Don't have an actual R4633, but maybe this will do until one shows up. Sure ain't no Cattle knife in this book.

I was thinking these may have been leftover parts,purchased ,and stamped with the only stamps they had. That first one is one of the strongest knives I've ever handled.

Modified the pruner,for whatever goofy idea. I guess you can make up your own story when the truth isn't available? Sometimes it brings the truth out of hiding.

I think they are Remington farmers jacks, "mostly",that stamp and pruning blade are quite the mystery to me. Thanks for looking

I cannot speak for Remington, but I know for sure that Robeson, on more than one occasion, discontinued an older pattern, then reassigned its number to a newer pattern.

Could Remington not have done that in this case?

There seems to be too many of the farmer's jacks with that number for them to be anything other than authentic.

Not a one to add here so don't stop to wait for me, keep em' coming! You have a wonderful collection wlf. That Challenge is sure sweet. You have chosen an uncommon pattern to collect and I have to say you have a great variety of makers. What do you think is the oldest time frame?

Having seen a good many of his knives in person all I can say is AMEN! Lyle has wonderful and unique collection anyone would be proud of.
