My dad never waited until Christmas or birthdays to give me anything… I always just remember him coming home from work or trips and saying “I got you this!” It was always something cool, and once it was an Opinel pocket knife. I just bought two: a #10 with a bottle opener and corkscrew to keep at our cabin, and a #6 to carry.

Hope it's okay to post in older threads....
LOVE these Opinels. I get such a sharp edge on them and they are fun to mod.
I only have 1 but I like them especially to see the modified ones

I may have shown these before.
The group is a set I bought a few years ago. The single is OPINEL company 130th anniversary addition.
I have another one in the garage that was intended for the owner to shape or carve the handle to their
own design. Like the ones I just won on our monthly contest. You don't want to see what I carved.

I really want to like these knives, what with all the good talk and reviews. But just something about 'em that makes me say no and set it back in the display.
But that's me.

I know what you mean Steve, it took me several years before I purchased my first one. I don't carry or use them, I just have these in my collection.

Ah, the difference between collectors and accumulators.
I'm the latter-I only buy what I'll carry and use.

I carry a Nō 7 from time to time for light use. They are super light and fairly strong but the blade is thin. It works well as a food prep knife at camp, not the best to stab through a feed sack or cut a box.

I have always thought that the reason people don't carry them is because the high carbon stains so easily, and they are difficult to open with one hand. I have a #8 & a #10, but don't use them much for the reasons I stated.

Stain = patina. No worries here.
Can't open 1 hand; can't do that with any of the knives I carry. No problems here.
Just no love for the handle. Like I said, I want to like it, just can't bring myself to it.

I have a few Opinels. Large and small.
They have their place.
If you get them wet they are hard to open with two hands.

I have some and they are kind of cool.
They seem a little fragile for hard or extended use.
