One of these marked Japan was posted on the first page so this is just a 'me too' post. Same as the one posted by Ray (knife7knut).

Roland, the USS Maine was allegedly sunk by Spanish forces off of the coast of Cuba in 1898, which sparked the Spanish-American war there. I think this was made 1920s or so. The fork is an older style.

Wow MB! Hard to imagine there's a nicer Ultery set left in existence than yours.

Thanks Roland, it was never used as far as I can tell. Looks like someone bought it took it home and it sat in a drawer for decades in it's original box.

Actually i think the "decades" are close to 100 years that the knife sat patiently, hoping someone would come along and show some interest in it. 1919 is given as the year Ulery ceased as a business.

I bought it about ten years ago, so yeah it sat around a good 90 years!

Here is a knife and fork set. The purse is kidskin with a felted exterior. Handles are French ivory. Tang stamp is an anchor with back-to-back Fs for Franz Frenzel Cutlery (Germany, late 19th Century to ~1930). Found this at the NCCA show last April in Mystic, CT.

I have had this folding fork for many years, hoping that the missing implements(s) would show up eventually. Has not happened yet.
The handle is so beautiful, I could not pass up the opportunity to acquire it.
No makers name, however there is Hallmark engravements on the fork spine.
Usually, folding eating implements have the manufacturer on the knife tangs only, so.....if you are missing the knife, you are out of luck discovering who made your set.
I have two well detailed Hallmark books that have given me success in the past to dating and manufacturer of many English knives that I have obtained over the years.
Unfortunately, the Hallmarks on the fork have given me zero results in identifying this beautiful fork.
The Hallmarks are three initials only: J R & S. with no date or mfg. hallmarks. A mystery to me.
Going out on a limb, (A very fragile limb) Joseph Rodgers & Sons entered my mind. We know that Rogers famous Corporate Mark granted in 1764 and registered in England and abroad included the Star and Maltese Cross. Unfortunately, those marking are not on this item, therefore I can not confirm its originality.
After 1800, as the reputation of Rodgers production grew, new lines were begun. In that year, the manufacture of table cutlery commenced.
If anyone can add to its authenticity, please post.

Here's an old Robeson hobo.

Very nice Robeson 322 pattern slot knife.

They made those with a Terrier stamp also, so I tend to date them from the early 1900's, so they can pretty much be considered to be a hundred years or more in age.

I have a nice one with a nice blade etch. I've never been able to discover the source of the etch.

The etch reads, "KUCO" within a fancy oval scroll with an arrow through it.

There is no pattern number on it.

Assuming the "CO" represents "Company", that leaves us to just figure out the "KU".

Believe me, I have searched the world wide web extensively trying to figure that out.

I think the company or organization from the early 1900's did not survive long term.

It seems to me the two prong fork can place them in a certain era, no?

I think Levine has mentioned the advent of the three tine fork re' dinner cutlery. Whether that information includes these slot knives and pocket eating sets, I do not know.

I know this is an old thread but thought I’d share mine. Both are cheap Johnston USA made which is nothing special except my last name is Johnston. Now I’m trying to find 2 more so I can give one to each of my kids. I’m also looking for the fishing tool that one of these is missing.

Although an inexpensive set in its day they are hard to find in that condition today
