All About Pocket Knives

Great knives frj. Here's one that I bought off of David as well. I love it.

Thanks joe. An old ebony jack just screams classic class to me. Love em. The main blade snaps hard both ways but the pen not so much. It's built like a tank though.

I have thought about the horse or mule drawn wagons that probably came from the Thomaston rail center up the long grade to Northfield to supply the many needs of such a great and demanding manufactory. For many years it was a very busy and prosperous and successful endeavor. It was an important part of commerce in this area for many reasons. Old Northfield. I love going up there. I've tried to imagine what it must have been like there, but I don't get too far with that. Just don't know. Sure wish I could spend a week there in, oh say, the 1870s or so.

So, another Northfield has come into my position. A nice little (3 3/8") sleave board pen.
This one is stamped Northfield Cut. Co.. Northfield used this stamp from 1858-1919 says Goins.
No half stops with nickel pins and brass liners. Hasn't been used much but it got quite close to some ones buffing wheel.

Nice one Joe! I love that style of celluloid.I think the reason it may have been buffed is that the cel might have started to degrade.If you look at the pic that shows the open pen blade there is a small crack emanating from the scale rivet and a slight bit of discoloration.It also looks like there was a line along the pen blade where the exposed part of the blade had corroded.
A lot of times with cel handled knives the scales deteriorate on the underside next to the brass and the outside(top)of the scales remain intact.I would keep a close eye on it if this is the case.

I think you're right, knife7knut. Good observation and thanks for the heads up. I hope to sharpen it and carry it, but if at some time it lays idle I'll keep it separate.

Here's another very neat little (2 3/4") Northfield. This one is stamped Northfield Knife Co.
Different from other stamps in the pile.
This one sports a little ivory. The seller said it had white handles.

Here's another nice but scruffy/used old Northfield. 3 3/4". Aint half bad.

Nice Joe, 1870s or before I would guess. That is big at 3 3/4, very cool piece.
