That be a Kabar 1179 - 5 1/2" blade, rosewood handle.

Thanks. You have solved a great mystery for me. I've owned this knife for 20 years or more and never did know what it was. Mine has a 4 1/2 inch blade, but now that I know it says Ka Bar I can barely make out the etch.

Yep, if mine hadn't still had a faint etch, I'd be stumped too ! They are from the 80's vintage, when Cole bought out Kabar I believe.

So do I Knifegirl;here it is with an old Sheffield dagger(can't read the name;maybe W.Greaves)and a Northfield.Second pic is an unmarked French fishtail with two 1880's era I*XL knives.
