The new one with the Wharncliff main blade would make a wonderful companion to my Pumpkin Patch with the Spear main blade. Both blades are particular favorites of mine. What do ya'll think? Do Stag and Pumpkin Patch go together?

Pinoeer Buffalo Horn.

That buffalo horn is pretty, it polishes up very well. I just noticed the Great Eastern Cutlery Trade Mark etch on the main blade. Is that one of the stainless steel knives?

I don't see any freckles on the blades.

My #73 started freckling pretty fast. Vinegar patina seems to have stopped that nonsense.

I'm not sure if it is SS! Seems like their 07 knives were carbon if memory serves.

The great eastern brand is SS.tidiote and northfield are 1095.

LOVE that pattern! But it CRIES for a Spearpoint main blade!

If I'm correct it's also about 1/2 longer than I prefer.

First post here, but I think I saw you buying those at the show. I picked up the Banana Peel Northfield Congress from Ryan. I agree, he is a good salesman. I spent a few minutes asking him questions and got some good background information. I really like the build quality on their knives. It was Ryan who got me addicted to them in the first place. I met him at a show in November and bought a Northfield Barlow and was so impressed I started buying them.

Wish I had more money to spend on GECs, but I have to hold myself to one per month. I do enjoy deciding what to get.

Welcome Dean. Glad you could join us and please keep us updated on what you purchase. (pics to help others who have the same habit would be helpful).

This one has to be my favorite GEC 'cause its the only one I've got right now. Its a Tidioute #53 in Mexican Bocote that I got from Mr. Latham's website a few days ago. I wasn't sure about the Cuban pattern at first since its not 'traditional' for a stockman, but after a few minutes of actually using it I understand why its popular. When it works this good in the hand I don't care how non-traditional it looks - I may have to get me another! Plus, wood handles are second only to buffalo horn on my favorite materials list and these are some good lookin' wood handles! Very nice knife.

Welcome to the site Dean I hope you enjoy your Northfield Banana in good health. I agree that GEC really builds some high quality pocket knives. I asked Ryan how business was and he told me that they were doing really well. It goes to show you that an American company can still make the best knives in the world and make a profit also.
