Here is one without the plus sign. I need to get a Birchwood Casey blue touch-up pen and see if it 'takes' a patina.

Welcome. There may not have been any 51's with a + sign. At least from what I can remember seeing.

Here, again, I should test because I have some examples (none have plus signs). Meanwhile the 504s (the scrimshaw versions) all had plus signs in their tang stamps.

All the blades in my five 858 knives look to be stainless even though only 2 of the 5 are marked "Schrade+".

I expect that there are a few other patterns that have sneaky steel. Just makes collecting more interesting.

I have a later days 34ot that I am pretty sure is stainless. No +. I still intend to test it more thoroughly.

There are two threads available for posting the Schrade knives, this one (old Schrades) and the other one (latest Schrade). Everyone's definition is different, of course, but I think the posts here have gotten off course (mine being guilty also). My personal definition of an old Schrade is anything made before the Delrin revolution (1960/61). Thoughts?

It happens sometimes. I agree.

I think defining "old Schrade" as being the pre 1960 knives is a sensible classification. Delrin changes the look and 'presence' of a knife and beginning in 1960 it only took about 1 year for most Schrade-Walden knives to have Delrin handles.

Is there any way the heading can be changed to:
WHAT IS YOUR LATEST OLD SCHRADE? Pre 1961.

Why 1961? I would hate to think my old 8OT [my only old Schrade] would miss out.
Schrade called my 8OT an "Old Timer" so it must be old, by now... Ken

Beautiful bone 8ot Ken. The bone 8ot's definitely qualify for this thread. They are at the tail end of what I would consider schrades of old. The delrin and swinden was a big change but with it came many other more subtle changes but they made the knives very different.

I picked up another lucky ebay find. Red peachseed bone schrade walden 861. Stunning condition, basically minty; I did not expect it to be this good.

That would be a very pleasing knife to carry. I have one or two that would be similar that are just nice to have in pocket and use, too!

There has been a bunch of beauties posted since I was here last.....
The bone Old Timers are real head turners!
.
Now Ken....
I would be glad to give you $10 for the 2OT... That would be double your money (LOL) and I would even step up and pay the shipping to America!
And just like Zukie Limmer told the indians on the outlaw Josey Wales..... "and that would be a good deal for you!"....LOL.
Ken....
A 2OT in the presentation box like that is a true treasure!
Thanks for showing!!

:D
