OK, so the Remington Scout knife is returned again from the spring repair. He corrected the blade placement and drilled the bail holes on the bolster as they were supposed to be. BUT HE FORGOT TO RETURN THE BAIL!!!!!!!!! Needless to say, I am questioning my decision to have him work on my knife. Not a good experience this time.

Did this knife mechanic fill in the bail holes or was it like that when he received it? I hope that one of our resident knife mechanics didn't do this hack job. In the final anaylsis did the knife turn out OK?

Update on my Remington Scout.

So he sends it back with the blades in the correct position, holes drilled for the bail,

BUT HE LOST THE BAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The bolsters look awful, not finished off nicely at all, which if he had done the job right in the first place he wouldn't had to touch them. He was only replacing one spring with an orginal spring supplied by good forum member to me.

I called and called and finally he admitted he doesn't have it. He said I am sorry and that I must not have sent it.

When I received the knife with the incorrect blade placement and the bail holes filled in I returned it with a photo showing how the blades should be and the bail so he would know where to drill the holes.

I did send it and of course he lost it. I am not a happy camper and now have more money in this knife than its worth due to his poor work,

His name is Tom Abbott, former Case employee and advertises in Knife World Magazine. I am sad to have to reveal this, but I cannot in good mind, recommend this man to anyone after this bad experience,

He told me he rarely works on Remington's and that's why he messed it up. I called him personally before sending the knife orginally to make sure he was OK with doing the small job that I needed.

Any one want to buy a Remington Scout CHEAP? my loss your gain, I don't want it anymore, if you have a bail, it would be OK.

I am done venting now.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with Tom. I sent him a Queen folding hunter to clean up and fix a blade wobble. I even said that if he did a good job on the Queen I would send him a box full of knives to clean up for me. Well when he sent my knife back, after 6 weeks or so it looked and wobbled like he never touched it. I didn't let myself get worked up I just paid him and went out and bought myself a buffer and read a few threads here to learn how to tighten the wobble myself. I know he's a retired Case employee so I'll bet he does a good job on them. I will never know

Kinda hard to convince many of that since "SHINY" always sells for more.......
While it may degrade the value, it never degrades the selling price.

When I was accumulating ZIPPO lighters, several sellers would buy the ragged out WWII ZIPPO's for $50 and buff and shine the hell out of the inserts, keep in mind that the inserts were coated so as to not reflect light, and they would strip the old paint off and re-paint. These "re-conditioned" WWII ZIPPO's would sell in the $200-$400 range, sometimes higher. They'd lost all of their character and historical relevence, but it didn't seem to matter.
