From our walk yesterday. Well, I tried the same scenario as the one I described in my post to Q a couple of days ago. Same knife, same pose, different tree, different light. This time I was able to get one shot with everything in focus.....almost.

Oh Yeeeeaaaah!!! Nailed it I wonder if the spirit of the Ivoryman Schrade had any effect on making your pic turn out so good

Tim, your Great Smoky Mtn Trapper photo also nailed the near/far focus perfectly. Well done both a yous guys

I must be insane because I keep trying the same things and hoping for a different result. Might be easier to just learn to appreciate a blurry background

Beautiful picture, I think the blurred background works well on that one, very nice.

I remember posting a pic a few years ago with a blurry background and Ivoryman commented that it was a really nice effect. I just told him thanks and never mentioned the fact that it was purely accidental and I couldn't have done it any differently.

Thanks Q. I'm sure the Ivoryman spirit is involved.

Just a thought. I have a couple of obsolete old digital cameras that I don't use anymore but I notice that both of them have many settings and adjustments that you don't get with a phone-cam. I'm guessing that the phone-cam is supposed to do those adjustments automatically or something. I think I might resurrect one of those digital cameras and see what happens when a dumbass human takes control of the settings. What have I got to lose? A couple of AA batteries? I'll give it a shot when I get a chance.

Well composed photos, Q and Charlie. I think that if the knife is in clear focus, then an out of focus background is okay. I always note the background of both of your photos, Q with vesicular lava and volcanic cliffs, and Charlie with pines and forest very similar to what I live in.

How did you get Sasquach to pose so nicely with green scaled Imperial pocketknife in the top picture?

Appreciate the feedback and really enjoy seeing your pics

My outing this morning was in a more urban environment, so I had to improvise with my current EDC in the available setting.
At one point, while waiting for my wife at the dentist, a swarm of dragonflies swooped in to see what I was doing. I took about a bazillion photos trying to get a pic of them but thanks to my slow trigger finger I didn’t manage to capture a single one I did get a lot of pics of this knife on the roof of my car, though

Tonight is Walpurgis Night. A thousand years ago, according to legend, witches across Europe would have been meeting for their rites. Two thousand years ago my ancestors in the British Isles would have been lighting bonfires and driving their livestock through the embers and joining hands to leap over the flames. I have always regretted missing out on those nights of festivity. Here is a photo inspired by my Celtic fantasy of what folks might have carried to those celebrations across the centuries.

Here's my little tribute to Celtic lore....Although I am pretty certain the ancient Celts did not have Russlocks the inlaid designs are intended to depict Celtic style. I don't know the symbolism of the sword and rose on the pile side, but the interlocking "Celtic knot" style of the Seahorse on the mark side is obvious.
