The weaving of scarves and aba in the past is closely related to the clothing of the population. It is one of the constant home crafts. Their elaboration preceded the placement of the Turks on the Balkan Peninsula. Byzantine chronicler Nicephorus Grigoras testified that he saw Bulgarians dressed in black, rough cloths, called aba, "who are largely replacing sheepskins."

Came today. This RR impresses somewhat more than usual. Perhaps it is the Irish theme with clovers on the nicely done bolsters. The fitting of the bolsters with the scales, the alignment of blades, the dying of the bone, the heft of this Stockman all add up to something special, at least for me. Extremely sharp out of the box. If this were a U.S. brand I would (if I had the money) gladly pay 60 or 70 dollars for this quality. (Paid $15.) I will be looking into the other knives in this "Stroke of Luck" series.

Paul T, You are correct, this one could be a fluke. Twice this year I received disappointing knives from two brands that had never previously had issues. So too, RR consistently makes very usable, practical, knives at low cost. They will never be mistaken for a GEC, nor are they intended to. So it would not surprise me that this lucky knife I received might have been put together when all the stars and planets were aligned for the few minutes it took to assemble. If so extra lucky for me.

This little (2.5" closed) Queen #8 in MOP w/ bail came in the mail today! This is a cute little guy!

QS, i have Rough Riders going back to 2007, all very good knives, over 200 bought online and not even one has an 'issue'. What i am noticing is that the more recent RR's are even better than the earlier ones which were already very good. The Armor Hide handled RR's are some of my favorites.
My bet is you could buy another 9 of the green handled Stockman and all 10 would be equally fine.

KJ, I suspect your assessment is correct. I have only a relative few RRs and they were all up to snuff. But this recent one of yesterday just struck me as a step upward. Am glad to hear of your experience.

All I see on the third stamp is a pattern number, which could possibly be a shapleigh DE based on the way the knife looks and how shapleigh often had a B in the pattern number. Schrade made a lot of the shapleigh DE knives.
Does it measure 3 1/8"? It looks like it may have been the same pattern as this schrade walden in the 1947 catalog.

Just got this late 50s Wenger knife in, a petite SAK at 85 mm. I think I may carry this knife, used enough I can justify it but it's got a lot of style and function.

Two in the mail today! A blue bone Case 6207 mini trapper and a Camillus #64 premium stock with the "spiral punch" and "genuine Cabone handle" (that's what it is called in the 1976 catalog)
Edit: I forgot to add a plea to all knife sellers: PLEASE do not use those "Ready Post" envelopes that have a lining of pulverized recycled paper fluff. When you stick a knife in that bag, it literally explodes that @#$%&! fluff all over the room. I HATE THOSE THINGS!!!

Yes! That is actually my first mini trapper. I've tried to buy several, but I guess I can't compete against Jerry for them!!
