Here is my latest knife. A Rough Ryder Highland Black Micarta Large Swing Guard. This is no small knife. The walk and talk is very smooth: pretty much perfect. The blade is nice and sharp: do not get your finger in the way when the blade closes! And if you like to use your pocketknife for a hammer (I have seen it and done it) this knife has a good heft.

It sure is a BIG knife, huh, Mel? I remember how surprised I was when mine came as to it's size, but, being a lover of large knives I got over it quickly!

Thanks, fellows. I like big knives ... on the other hand I like small knives ... and medium knives ... you get the idea! I keep being surprised by the very smooth action: nice.

Just thought I would tell you of my latest Rough Ryder acquisition . Its the RR1799 Large stockman brown stag bone. At 4 3/4" in length closed its not overly large but would really benefit being carried in a belt sheath or in a pouch in your backpack !
Its an absolutely gorgeous and aesthetically appealing model with its gentle curved serpentine body shape fitted with quality brown bone stag scales, brass liners , nickel silver pinched bolsters set at an angle , all in all a quality build Traditional Slipjoint knife that feels robust in the hand with enough heft to give it that well built solid feel It has a three blade combination , the main clip point bladeand a Spey blade opening at one end and a Lambsfoot blade opening at the opposite end , all came sharp out of the box . My particular model came with first class fit and finish , straight blades with no side or vertical play and no gapping in between the liners and scales and back springs .
Cant recommend this model highly enough !

Been looking on youtube and noticed there are some really nice discontinued RR models on there . Just wondering if any of the Forum members here have any photos of some of the older / discontinued RR slipjoints they would like to share with everyone ?

I have these 5, I dont know how old they are. The 3 with the acorn shield are from the Outdoorsman Series.
Elephant Toenail RR887 Swing guard lockblade RR1083 Trapper RR777 Copperhead, this one was missing the handle material when I got it, so I redid it with stag. Double lockblade RR750

If you look back through this thread you will see a lot of the Rough Riders made over the past decade. I did not buy any before about 2015 so I do not have any older than that.

We need photos of that RR1799 Stockman!

Thanks for showing those. OC. I like the bone on that Swing Guard. I think one of my older RRs has the same bone.

How about one of these? A Rough Ryder "Moonshiner" Trapper and a stainless flask, both
fit in the wooden barrel when not on display.

Next Dinadan I have tried to upload photos from my phone of my latest RR Large Stockman brown stag bone but I honestly cannot see any icons that will allow me to do this ? Same on my main PC , there are no attachment icons ?

Hey dlr110 , now that moonshine trapper is one I would really like to own , probably no chance here in the UKso I will just have to keep looking at this pic

When I first bought Rough Ryders, which was after the name change from Rough Rider, I carried a RR1799 in a Buck 110 size leather pouch for over a year. SMKW had RR1799s for $15, shipped free if you added one to make an order meet a $100 minimum for free shipping. For $2 more SMKW had the same pattern with the same brown stag bone branded Colt. I liked the RR1799 so much I bought a few of them. The pattern is a reproduction of a jumbo stockman that a well respected brand had made in England. I forget which brand. A couple of them were sold through the AAPK store but not for $15. SMKW has sold the pattern with at least a half dozen different side covers. Some, like the RR1799, they named Texas Stockman, others Large Stockman. The most recently introduced variation has Pandora Swirl, part wood burl and part blue acrillic. My favorite remains their brown stag bone because it has the roughest surface for the safest grip. SMKW called its larger secondary blade a sheep's foot. It's a long sheep's foot because the frame is extra long. As I undersand knife blade names, a lamb's foot is a full length blade, not a secondary blade. I used the sheep's foot most of the time. Mine have not been used for a while because I have more knives than I need.
