Great looking 110, OH! What are they calling that Micarta color?

I recently picked up a 112 Slim Ranger and 110 Slim Hunter in what they call Olive Drab and Brown Micarta, respectively. Both in S30V with excellent fit and finish, very light weight even for the Hunter.

Thanks John. I'm really looking forward to getting this one. Buck has never made a Model 687 in any other knife, so these will be a unique 'stand alone' make of 100. Another reason why I pulled the trigger on this one. I'll post photos of it when I receive it.

Thanks gents, this one is the olive drab or OD Green, a bit lighter than my definition - about the color of an old set of fatigues that had become very salty. Carries like a dream, I cannot even tell its clipped in my pocket until I put my hand in there to grab out my keys. In fact I fell asleep on the couch last night with the knife still in my pocket, woke up three hours later and laughed when I realized I was sleeping with a Buck 110 in my pocket. I think I am really going to like this knife. OH

1987 305 Lancer. I like small knives for the stuff I do around the house. I try to keep the knife I carry under two ounces for a 3.5" or smaller knife. The 425M steel of these older Bucks, and coping instead of pen blade suited my uses better than the typical small pen or small Stockman Since Buck is no longer making them, the prices have gone up. At $25 for two knives, I felt this was my best shot.

This should be fairly early in the history of in-house produced Buck traditional slipjoints, correct?
Looks sort of like a 301 Camillus made. But it's marked Remington and between the 301 and 303 in size. Came with the 305. I suspect this was a hodgepodge end of days knife from Camillus. The quality is OK, but the front right bolster doesn't have good fit. It looks like a Buck, and came with a Buck, so I'm including it here.

Cody, that 305 is a 1987 knife and it is an early Buck made knife. They started in 1985. Nice find.

This beauty arrived October 12, a hundred dollar knife, so not cheap. But, with an S30v blade and beautiful burlap micarta scales, it doesn't seem overpriced. I like it a lot so far. Not assisted opening, but has a smooth action for sure. The blade is I think called a hybrid between drop point and clip, but it's mostly clip to my thinking. The micarta is smooth, but not slippery smooth, really feels good in hand. I really liked the idea of a USA made flipper by a 100 year old plus company like Buck, and they built it very solid. There's a version with carbon fiber scales, but it runs an additional 50 bucks. It looks sharp, but I prefer micarta.

Looks great! Excluding the few that are discontinued and on clearance, you can't get an S30V Benchmade for $100 or less, let alone one with G10 handles.

You really don't need an assisted knife. My Vantage opens like it's assisted and has ball bearings--but it has neither. Bronze washers. And hard to believe, that knife cost me just $28. And it's still USA made!

It opens pretty smooth. If you're holding it right and flick right it always opens with no wrist movement needed. If you get a little sloppy it may not go to lock, but not because it doesn't have a nice bearing pivot.

I really do appreciate the Kershaw SpeedSafe. I know it seems to be a rite of passage that after a few years and more than a few knives everybody says they prefer manuals, and run down the speedsafe. I have a ZT 0900, and a CRKT Ripple that are manual flippers, and the ZT of course practically opens itself it is so smooth, and the heavy blade helps. There is certainly nothing wrong with preferring manuals, and obviously you can make a cheaper pivot assembly with washers instead of bearing with the extra push from the SS spring to help, but that is the whole idea.

But, and it's purely a personal thing, I love the way I can just flick the SpeedSafe and it's going to open, even if I am a little sloppy on my "technique."

My feelings may change, but for now, while the Buck is a beauty, I prefer a Kershaw Dividend or Leek for EDC because of the SS. But the Buck will still make it into my pocket, it has already, and I can't quit pulling it out to feel the micarta and flip that nice blade out.

My first 110.. Not quite warming up to it yet.. Trying though..

You’re going to get there John, keep warming! The LT series are great for fishing and working around the house, yard, shed, etc. I do still prefer the full weight Buck 110 for hunting purposes - woodcraft and big game cleaning. You may want to try one of those too. By the way, the one you have with the contour lines is a desirable limited run handle - some folks go gaw-gaw over the limited runs! OH

Thanks Bruce.. I am trying.. Honest.. Ya know.. When I first saw one of those posted over on BF I thought they were really kool.. So when they went on sale at BUCK I had to jump.. I LIKE it so time will tell..

You practically stole at at that price! I find the $65 MSRP really good to start with for a knife that size, given the far less-refined Kabar is exactly that much.

New arrival. Sorry for the poor photos but my PC wouldn't upload the other photos so I am stuck with these for now.
I have always wanted to have one of the 100 Series axes, but they have become hard to find and a bit costy, so I decided to get this 2014 #757 NIB, which was made in Taiwan. I don't usually buy import Bucks of any kind, but I bought this until I can find an affordable #100 Series unit. Like I said, this is NIB with papers, so it will do until I can find an affordable 100 Series. I do have another import of the #300 Series, a #303, but it is a "special" one, so I will post it here another time.
