All About Pocket Knives

My older daughter is getting married tomorrow; I wanted an unobtrusive, flat, light, quality pocketknife to carry in my blue suit pocket as I give her away. I chose the new Buck 524 Alumni. I got pressed into service today to trim some signs, my Dad supervised me - my Case 6318 Sheepfoot did the job. OH

OH, I've been eyeing those new Buck 524, in fact, I carried one in an online shopping cart for a while until something else caught my eye. How is the build quality & finish?

TFL, very well made, especially for $20/MSRP (I paid about $15/OTD). Great snap, positive lock, no wiggle, wobble, or waggle. Smooth and light - great gents dress knife. OH

This A G Russell bone handle agents office knife arrived in my mail box, acquired at a very reasonable price from ~Q~ here in the for sale or trade section of the forum. Knife and sheath are top notch, solidly built and attractive. Never had a knife with a thumb stud so been practicing my blade opening. Thumbs a little sore not from the opening motion but from depressing the backspring to close, takes good deal of pressure to release lockback.

Yesterday's mail dumped this on my door stoop. I need to give a shout out to Matthew Sanders because I got it out of his AAPK Store. Beauty Matt. I appreciate the quick service.

It's here, it's here, it's here. This blue bone Wharncliffe Copperhead came today. Ain't she a beauty? Only problem is the pile side bone was hafted too deeply and the dye didn't take deep enough. Oh well, I love it anyway.

Jerry both sides have very nice color in their own right.

I think I like the pile side better! I always like when the dye is lighter - it makes it more interesting and separates the bone from the synthetics.

Had a couple waiting on me when I got back for a couple of weeks with my Son and his wife in Seattle Suburb of Des Moines. A fixed blade from Scott. And the sheath is as knice as the knife. Even some great para cord work attached. Scott always goes over and above. The other a little 72 I got off ebay at a bottom feeder price, But a knice little knife.

Two GEC's today.
A 56 Bird Dog and a 35 Churchill.
The 35 will be my new EDC. It's the almost perfect knife for me. 3 3/4" equal end, clip main, sheepfoot secondary, Ebony, single spring, not a nail breaker. Got it from Mike at CK.

Also got this Kutmaster USCG rope knife.

Ebony, yellow and wood, you know all my favorites.

Here's a couple that came in today.

One step closer to completion of my Imperial cracked ice shell handled collection. This is a collection I've been working on since I was about 8 years old and I know of less then a handful of patterns that I'm missing.
And one for the HOK collection. A Schrade-Walden 836 Whittler. Love these old Serpentine Whittlers and this one turned out to be a very nice example in slick black.

Rob, is your Imperial a pipe smoker's knife? Sure looks like it.

It is Jerry. It's a pattern more often seen with the Richards 'lampost' stamp. I think Imperial picked up on it after they acquired Richards. The bowl scraper is a miniature version of a punch blade.

That Schrade sure is a looker! Pretty full blades, too!

Thanks Glenn, I've always been a sucker for black and silver knives. There's one like it pictured in Sargent's and the blades do appear to be very near full.

For some reason, I have a real soft spot for that Richards "lamppost" stamp. I think it's my favorite tang stamp.

Appreciate the catalog cut, Paul. I've saved it to the folder with the knife pics for future reference. The only thing I'd question is whether the slick black is actually celluloid. I think it may be one of the later composition materials.

A slow week and only two lonely residents in the mail basket when I arrived. This little Bench Made really surprised me with the quality of wokmanship and materials. I tried to show the perfection of the sharpening grind in the picture . It is astounding. Number two is a 9474 Sta-Sharp Trapper with an immaculate etch.

It's not often my mailbox gets the kind of workout it's had this week. I'm having trouble getting pictures to load so I'm only showing three of six on the first post. More to follow (hopefully).

And now some Canal Street knives in Orange Curly Maple.

Nice haul Philco That ebony Robeson looks mighty fine to me.
