All About Pocket Knives

This one is not that old, but is considered to be somewhat rare. It was produced during the short time that Jim Parker owned W.R.Case & Co. Tang stamped “Bradford, PA”, but probably produced in the Alabama plant that is now Bear & Sons. Purported to be a production run of only 200.

And yet another newer, but still (purportedly) rare knife.
Single blade, water buffalo horn, gunstock

I don’t remember exactly when this knife was released, but the Fight’n Rooster Club newsletter described it as being pieced together from bits left over from other knives, and was a limited run of only 65 knives .I immediately called to order the knife. I was told they were all spoken for, but my name would go on the wait list. A little later, I got a call back asking if I was the person who had written Mr. Buster the thank you note when I ordered my first Rooster. I had complimented him for answering the company phone and taking orders. When I verified I was that person , I was told Mr. Buster had held back 5 of the 65 for his own collection, but if I wanted one and would give them my credit card info I the phone that he would send me one of his holdbacks. Of course, I jumped on the opportunity.

Great story and beautiful knife.

Here is an old knife that I bought years ago as a project. It was in parts in a plastic bag when I bought it. Finally got around to getting it back together and putting some ebony wood handles on it. Canastota Knife Co. N.Y. lock back stabber jack pattern 4 1/2" closed. One of very few Canastota knives I've owned. Pretty rough but still locks up and has a bit of snap.

That's a beauty! Same knife but yours doesn't look to have been through the war.

Speaking of Canastota, here's one I recently sold. The blades were not in the best condition, but they were tight with plenty of snap.

Recent find. A pair of oldies for which I paid $5 for the one in brass, the lady threw in the other for free because of the broken covers. Rough shape, I know. Both stamped Miller Bros. Meriden. Both measure 2 7/8" closed. More pics follow in next post. Some pics with flash, a few without.

Not too recently, this pocket knife arrived in a group or lot of pocket knives that I purchased. It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. I did NOT purchase the group or lot to obtain this particular pocket knife. However, it did turn out to be a keeper. It did get added to my general, pocket knife accumulation. It is a WABASH, two blades, two tang stamps, 3 1/4" closed, a long main blade pull and match strike, one spring, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp is the curved or arched style. The secondary blade front tang stamp is the block style. The main blade front tang stamp says,"WABASH CUTLERY (over) CO. (over) TERRE-HAUTE, IND." The secondary blade front tang stamp says, "W. C. CO. (over) T. H. IND." The main blade does have a SOFT half stop. The main blade does have an OK opening snap. The main blade does have an OK closing snap. The secondary blade does have a SOFT half stop. The secondary blade does have an OK opening snap. The secondary blade does have an OK closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition. This pocket knife did require some VERY minor cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

A couple of days ago, my trip to the post office produced this lobster or gentlemans', pattern or style of pocket knife. It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the most recent example to be added to my general, pocket knife accumulation. It is an ORANGE CUTLERY COMPANY, one blade, one tool (a file with a blade tip), two tang stamps, 3" closed, lobster or gentlemans', pattern or style of pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "ORANGE (over) CUT. CO. (over) WALDEN, N.Y." The tool back tang stamp also says, "ORANGE (over) CUT. CO. (over) WALDEN, N.Y." The main handle side has an applied MASONIC symbol, logo, or emblem, with "JrO UAM" (Junior Order of United American Mechanics). The main blade does have a SOFT half stop. The main blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a GOOD closing snap. The tool does have a SOFT half stop. The tool does have a GOOD opening snap. The tool does have a VERY GOOD closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

AAPK member lt632ret (R.I.P.), wrote a short article regarding ORANGE CUTLERY COMPANY and included pictures of
three tang stamps and four different ORANGE CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knives. The article and the pictures
can be found in his book, "Knives of the Hudson Valley - 160 Years of American Cutlery History"
The whole book is a VERY INTERESTING and VERY INFORMATIVE read.

Kent Knives NYC. I think from the 30's, sold at Woolworths and such as a Bowie knife??? Takes a keen edge.

Beautiful handles on that Kent Don.

Fabyan Knife Co. According to Goins ,only made one year and 1889 at that!!. Their stamp on the blade is shown from a picture taken off the internet on another Fabyan knife. The remnants of that stamp survived somehow on mine and is shown in the third picture , despite it's usage.
