I was up in my old central Illinois stomping grounds, and while out to lunch I was stopped by the crossing where the BNSF mainline from Chicago to San Bernardino runs.
I was excited to see an eastbound "mail train" highballing at track speed by, and then happily startled as a westbound mail train blew by on the nearer track!
It was quite a sight, and something I used to hope for when I was out there years back.
Sorry, I didn't video the meet, wish I had!!!
Thanks for all of the great information, links and pictures!

Where were you 154 years ago today? If you weren't at Promontory Summit, you missed out.
Hell on Wheels mentioned @ 23:40.
10 Miles of track on just one day.

I collect old R.R. tools... not so easy to find around here, but every once in a while I get lucky.
Cool!

No, looks like Fall and I have only ridden in the dead of Summer and Winter. The foliage would be amazing tho.

You guys might enjoy this short of my AMTRAK Capitol Limited #29 ride this past Friday. This is my train pulling into Harper's Ferry. I also posted several other shorts including Brunswick, MD and Cumberland, MD yards and some other points of interest along the way.
It was a fun 3 day weekend.

Very good! It's a compound word.
Dan·ke·schön

Substantiv, Neutrum [das]
1.
geäußerte Dankesworte
"er sagte ihm ein herzliches Dankeschön"
2.
