I got another 53 today. My first with the pattern number stamped on the tang. Listing pictures. These were certainly well used knives.

I let you have that one jerry6818. It was on my watch list, but I figured I'd wait for another one to come up for auction or sale with a better secondary blade. Good for you and for less than $7.00! ::tu:: :D

Good luck with that. It's an extremely seldom seen knife. I bought it because it has the pattern # on the blade. The other two I have/had, do not. Saw a picture of one with the pattern # on the blade one time. That's the only reason I discovered it's a #53.

If it were a "common" knife, this wouldn't be any fun. Like trying to find the "72" variations, it's the thrill of the hunt.
Then when found, its the thrill of the kill. :D

Well, I'm not the kind of guy that needs to hoard every one he finds of a hard to come by knife. If any more come up, unless there's one in extremely good condition that I can get at a reasonable price, it's all yours. I won't be your competition. ::handshake::

Oh, I don't consider this a competition, I consider this a challenge. Sort of a "treasure" hunt.
I know I have a better chance of seeing a unicorn than another Camillus 53, but then again,
I never thought I'd find a yellow handled wire jack either, but I did. ::handshake::

Yes, I am and I owe some of that "punishment" to you for supplying me with that list of
Camillus "72" variations (I just obtained two more a few minutes ago). ::tu::
Thank you. :D

These two arrived and became mine today.
The "41" is my third, but my first without a shield (by design).
The 4-line, Sleeveboard Jack has no physical flaws that I can find.

Nice 4-line, New Windsor!

I picked up the ratty George Washington knife a few years ago at auction for a very modest price. Last Summer my brother came to visit with his family and we all went to Mt. Vernon for the day. All his little 4 year old son talked about for the next 6+ months was George Washington. So recently I picked up a nicer George Washington knife to give to him at some point. The knives were made in 1932, from what I've read, and are designed based on a knife George's mother gave him when he was 11 years old. Supposed he carried that little knife with him the rest of his life. The nice one is in fairly pristine condition compared to others I have seen, has good walk & talk and even the autograph looks good.

Trying to decide if I give my nephew the ratty knife first and then the nice one when he's older and at what age I should give a knife to him in general? He's only 5 1/2 now and knife ownership is a big responsibility, plus I need to clear this with my bother and sister-in-law first anyhow. My brother wouldn't care, probably even at his son's current age, since this is such an unintimidating little knife, but mommy might be thinking otherwise. I got my first knife, a Camillus Cub Scout, from my parents when I was 10 years old and I still have it.

I don't use my name either. If people ever found out that D.B. Cooper is a Sasquach it'd make both puzzles too easy! ::rotflol::

NWNY, I'll call you anything you like except Susie, she broke my heart at age 14 and I've never fully recovered! ::rotflol::

Here's a little Camco jack with dark brown Delrin (I think) scales. I found it in one of my Dad's old tool boxes after he passed. I'm guessing that it dates from the 60s but don't know for sure.

NWNY is fine. I was a little "upset" last night when I posted my reply.
I deleted it a few minutes ago. I apologize (to everyone) for acting childish. ::facepalm:: ::handshake::

WOW! I'm getting too slow on the draw in my old age! This one appeared while I was writing the one above. No apology necessary. When we reach a point where we can't laugh at ourselves.......we're in deep trouble! ::tu::

I didn't even notice. I'm the one who was wrong here. I've got to learn to count to ten, take a deep breath and let things slide.
My little "outburst" was not directed at anyone on this site, forum, thread or topic. It was completely unrelated. Again, I'm very sorry. I would say it won't happen again, but.......
Anyway, back to knives.

And what better way to get back to knives than with a Camillus #53. This is my third one and only the 4th one I've seen and my first with the pattern number stamped on it. My experience with these so far is they were used and loved to death. This particular one has no snap. Well the main blade will snap if the pen blade is completely open, otherwise both blades have to be pushed closed. Never the less, I'm happy to have it and the price was rock bottom.

Indeed. Nice 53 Jerry.

The Camco I posted a little earlier also has no snap. The number stamped on the pile side of the master blade is 511. Also, I said dark brown handle, now while looking in brighter light, the scales are black. As I said I found it in one of my Dad's old tool boxes. Looks like he used it hard and it had rusted quite a bit laying in that tool box until I found it. I did some minimal cleaning and added it to the Camillus section. Any idea how to date it?
