A very old Gardner knife.

Those are great K7K. Theres a lot of beautiful ebony there. Any chance you would be willing to share a pic of the blades on the American Knife Co. jack at the bottom of the first picture, and the Holley at the bottom of the 3rd?

Yes it is, for the age it has not been used much or abused at all. The blades have perfect snap, no wobble and the handles are tight to the liners

This isn't an old knife but it is one of my favorite knives in ebony!

Thats a pretty one Capt. Farrel. Ebony and nickel silver go so well together. Any idea about he vintage here?

Thank you Beechtree! The Brand "Morningstar" was used by Linder between 1939 and 1970, so it should be at least 40 years old.

Here is one I bought today at an antique store.Robeson 126242 barehead jack.Have to check with Charlie about the stampings.Master blade stamped in a straight line(Robeson Shuredge Rochester)and the pen blade stamped in an arc Robeson Cutlery USA.Doesn'r appear to have ever been sharpened(either blade) and looked like it may have had a clear coating applied to it at one time(maybe at the factory?).Ebony scales were dry so I applied a little mineral oil to them and cleaned the blades up a bit. Not bad for $18.

Tom Kalcevic in Knives Can Talk! dates that stamp 1922 to 1939.

Robeson used to coat display board knives with a clear lacquer. If that is what's on your knife, it can be removed with finger nail polish remover if you desire.

Very nice knife for under $20.00.

Thanks Charlie and to all those who commented.Aside from using the old #2 pencil on the rust spots and a bit of oil I think I'm going to leave it as is.I have plenty of shiny knives
This was a case where if I hadn't asked the proprietor I never would have known the knife was there.It was the only knife in the shop(except for a cheapo souvenir knife)and hidden away in a small box and half buried on the lower shelf of the display case. I guess I'm going to have to look harder and ask more questions.All to make the hunt even more exciting.

Ray, are you sure it is wood? Robeson used a black comp. that is very similar, hard to see in the photos.

Whatever the case it is a very nice old knife

This is an oddly built old knife. Covered backsprings and pinless construction. It almost looks like the bolsters are pewter and possibly poured right to the liners. Never really seen a knife built quite like this.

Here are a few of mine. The last one is a bit unusual because the ebony is jigged.

I'm not a fan of wood handles but this GEC #15 Huckelberry Boy's Knife with ebony handles just tickles me clear to the bone. It's not old of course, but to me, it looks old and if it had rat-tail bolsters, it would look like it came right off the shelf of an early 20th century hardware store.

I agree Jerry, looks like it could've been sittin in a case filled with other older Ebony beauties.
