Got this one from Roger a while back. Lawton Cutlery Co. Goins says 1890-1895. Located in Chicago. They were importers and jobbers of cutlery. Possibly made by NYK Co. or Walden.

A beauty! Don't see a lot of American made knives with horn handles. O'.

Here is a 4" Providence, no, not that Providence. Even though it is stamped Austria, I am assuming that it is from the Providence Cutlery that Goins lists as a German firm. The 2 countries are neighbors, and the apparent age of the knife fits the timeframe. Perhaps, they had some knives produced in Austria..........

I had a post written out Ike and forgot to push send. I have a similar pattern, but mine is United , Austria.

I believe it's horn Mike, like John said, you don't see many early American manufacturers using horn. Likewise, I've never seen or heard of an American manufacturer using what we call pressed stag.

Lyle, Roger told me the same thing about horn being on early American knives.

Here is a couple old ones. Of course they are from PA. I’m not sure that any other state had cutlers. The first is a Hollingsworth Kane PA. I did a stirrup for Knife Magazine on the various companies of Kane. Next is the rarest CASE related company. Smithport Cutlery. Case brothers bought it and it burned down They had the name ground off the blades to stamp them Case Brothers. I only know of one other
