Camillus 72 came in today. I now understand why folks take a likin to them. This one aint purdy and needs some cleaning. It is perfectly sound in function. Has good F&F, good pull and snaps open and closed. That good Camillus steel took a good sharp edge quick fast and in a hurry! :D

That Schatt and Morgan is a sharp looking knife. And the little Camillus, greatness in simplicity. I have a couple and like them both.

David, the handles are a synthetic Camillus called Brownstag®. Used in the late '50s - mid '60s it's very stable. That knife should continue to give good service for many years to come.

You guys all got some nice ones there, good finds all around. ::tu::
Excellent whittler doglegg.
Is your S&M on a #69 frame Railsplitter? Hows the blade action? I have a similar elk stag one and it has excellent bear trap snap, love the knife.
That Camillus is a great looking pattern DM11, looks just about perfect for a edc knife.

It is indeed the #69 frame. I had to wait until I got the knife to know that for sure. It was on the box. Blade action is close to what you describe about yours. Pull is about an 8 on the pull scale but I can pinch the blade open as long as my hands are dry. It takes a good firm grip to pinch it open but I haven't had to use the nail nick yet in the 5 hours that I've owned it. I can tell that I won't be able to pinch it if my hands are the least bit sweaty.

I would rate the closing snap at about a 7 and the opening snap about a 9. I'm extremely pleased.

Me too. Being single is a big help towards being an out of control knife collector.
As for funds i have a line of credit from when i did have an income that justified the bank's granting this L of C.
I ran it up to about $55,000 buying knives. Now i am selling the knives to pay it off. The advantage of having this L.of C. is that i can use it to buy almost any knife whenever it shows up. The disadvantage is going into debt.

Well I salute you my friend, $55,000 for a knife fund if necessary confirms my suspicions that we live on different planets. In different solar systems. Wow that is unbelievable. Must take some serious control not to go hog wild and underwater in debt. I usually work with about 2-3/1000ths of that kind of limit. But I'll trade the other $54,500 for my wife and kids future. Wouldn't trade that for all the gold burried under land and sea. But I must say that amazed me when you wrote that. Shocked, stunned, amazed and choking on the dust I"m left in. No wonder you're always posting museum pieces and quantities and endless supplies of drool material and beauty and elegant pieces. Always like to see what you post and with that kind of backing it's even more amazing to me. Enjoy it, can't take it with us.

In my mail today was a very cool little Ka-Bar pen with yellow cracked ice celluloid handles and a bail (I have a thing for pen knives with a bail). I do have a question - on one side are some crinkles in the celluloid around the center pin (see the last picture for a close-up). What is that, and should I be worried that it will get worse?

Ivoryman my excessive spending of money i did not have, to obtain more knives is just a sign of knife addiction. I was trying to get 'one of everything'. Fortunately i now buy only knives that seem special to me and for a price i think is a very good deal. I hope to be out of knife-debt in about 12-24 months. Wanna buy a knife ?

Nice little Ka-Bar, TwoFlowersLuggage. ::tu:: I would check on it from time to time.

Here's an old swell center Clauss, Freemont, Ohio. 5 3/8" closed.
A Clauss I tell ya. I probably paid too much for it but I really like these old hunters with Ebony/Rosewood/whatever covers.
It's kinda rough, but did I mention it's a Clauss! ::super_happy::

Yeah, it's a pretty neat old knife. Hasn't had the best of care, but I'll get off what little rust is on it and get some earl in the joint and mineral oil on the covers and get the edge all stoned up and it'll be a respectable knife again. ::nod::
Glad you like it.

TwoFlowersLuggage that is a pretty little knife. FRJ, that knife begs to be held. Classic. Mail man brought me a couple of Camillus Rimfire Classics, #1and #3. Now only 5 more to go. Would love to find the elusive #6 whittler.
Camillus Rimfire Classic #3
Camillus Rimfire Classic #3

There were 7 different back in the late 90's and they pretty much run the gauntlet as to patterns. The 4 not mentioned already are a Jr Trapper, Muskrat, Single blade mini lock back and a 3 blade stockman. I enjoy shooting and these fit my likes so a double win. Thanks for your interest John.
