There was an early 8OT with red bone handles about 1973-4? The box was stamped "8OT-RB", it had
Deep Red Bone handles with an"original Old Timer Shield", match-strike pull and Walden tang stamp.

In 1982 Schrade made a 34OT, with a special "Old Timer Shield" and etched blade.[to give-away to their dealers]

In 1983 Schade sold the Heritage knives, the red bone knives were not Deep Red. [poor dying]
The tang was stamped Heritage, and a special "19 SCHRADE 83" shield was used.

In 1985 Schrade sold the 34OTSS; some of the bone was Deep Red and some handles, almost a Deep Brown.
The 34OTSS also had a special "Sterling - Old Timer" Shield.

The 1985 Deep Red Bone set, used a NY U.S.A. tang stamp and were sold separately in Brown boxes or in the three knife set.
In my humble opinion, they were the best made and finished Old Timers Schrade made, the 8OT in the set is outstanding.

Ken, perfect ! thank you, your list of the 70's-80's bone Old Timers is what i was looking for.
And yes, it is the Heritage Series of 1983 that i referred to in my previous post.
Now i am on the look out for these red bone 1985 knives.

Although I believe the 1985 Red Bone 8OT is the best of all the 8OTs - The original [1960-61] 8OT looks OK to me.
The last [4" 8OT framed] ACB8 that did not make it to production, in 2004 is one to look out for.
Most [95% or more] of the ACB8s were never finished off. They have Blue Rope-cut Bone handles.
The 1967 Buck 301 in the photo of three knives, was made by Schrade.

I have not yet been able to locate one of the blue rope cut ones. When you say they were never finished off do you mean the production run?

No ACB knives ever made it to full production, or sent out to the distributers.
Schrade closed down mid-year 2004 - The ACBs were meant to start production / Sales around September 2004.
The one above is a finished Salesman's knife, the others do not have the blade etch or a shield.
This is some of my unfinished ACBs and a Schrade's ACB Flyer.
The OTC8, Is one of the best [4" frame knives made]
The 8OTY is another knife that was only made in 1990, is one more 8OT to look out for... Ken

Another nice set was the Cigar Box Classics from 2003 using the SCHRADE WALDEN tang stamp and have a serial # on the front bolster.. There were 2 sets made...Brown jig bone and Green Mountain bone. I don't believe many of the Green Mountain sets made it through production, the top trapper in the second pic is an un-finished example. The boxes made pre 2004 say HAND MADE IN THE U.S.A. SINCE 1904 on the top of the lid...the imitation/import cigar boxes say HAND MADE SINCE 1904.

I don't think too many of those Cigar Box Classics were made, I have seen some sell on eBay over the years.
It is very hard to find finished Cigar Box Classics, in those boxes.
The Taxes Rangers, are much the same knife, with a round Taxes Ranger Shield, they too are very hard to find.
I have never seen the Boxes for the ACB knives and I have only seen one finished set of ACB knives.

As for your ACB trapper, I found one of them for $30 on eBay -
The seller would not sell it to me, as he did not sell or post out of the U.S.A.

I have only ever seen one of the 2004 Anniversary set, with the wooden handles.
The Blue Jigged Bone knives, can also be seen from time to time - I have only seen one set of them, also.
The Honey Gold Jigged Bone sets, come up for sale from time to time.
Schrade had a lot of knives in the pipe-line, that did not make it to Full Production. [In 2003-04]

The Anniversary Badger, Schrade had made in China - Shows they were look to have some knives made in China.

I put all these in one frame due to lack of wall space. The Green Wood PH2 is displayed pile side out. When the display lid is closed the wrinkles disappear ....kind of like a gal in a good pair of Wranglers

The first production of those were inked first production run....500 of each and then they produced another 1000 of each if I remember correctly, or maybe it was 1500 each...I will have to look again. I have both the green and red in a Schrade display frame with paperwork and a nylon pouch. I have to see if I have a photo

Tom, I have often considered if Schrade finished off a 1000 of each of the special knives.
Over the years I have collected over twenty of the D'holder, Lake & Walker and Barnett nylon bags [all with tags on them]
One seller on eBay had a very large number of the bags... Ken
Why would so many of these bags, be left over - with no knives to fill them.

I believe the reason there are so many "extra" bags & pouches is because they bought them in bulk and a much cheaper cost. A lot of times you only need a thousand pouches, however, you get a significant price break by buying say 5000 pieces and then they become excess to your needs. Now if they decided to do another run of the same style knife, then they basically have the bag/pouch for free.

I see it all the time in my line of business, larger quantities equal lower costs. That's my theory on that. I also know that the intention is to build what they stated, as far as the number was concerned, however, if it isn't a seller they wouldn't just produce them anyway. Why produce a product that wasn't going to sell. On the flip side, they would do a run of a projected number of 1000 and end up having an over-run and could potentially end up producing 1100 - 1200. They had to figure in a formula for rejected knives so they would produce the number required + say 10% or whatever their failure rate was.

To give you another example.....I have several boxes of Imperial Schrade felt knife rolls. They are blue, hold 5 knives and they are screen printed Imperial Schrade. These can from the Schrade Auction, I would guess that I probably have 500-1000 pieces. Schrade obviously had these made for some project and never used them all....now they rest in my knife room.

Tom. I always like to hear you opinion, on these questions.
Do you have any information on the first 8OTs, Shields ? Gimping ? Boxed in sixes ? individually boxed etc. etc.
Date: when and for how lone they were made ? Ken.

I picked up this fun, unfinished '03 Cigar Box Classic Muskrat in a package deal with an Uncle Henry 77UH for about $30 less than I paid for my first 77UH. Ebay, go figure. I think this green bone muskrat is my new BBQ knife this summer.

Those cigar box knives are really beautiful. If they were in 1095 I would be all over them. Thanx for showing one of the beauties!

Spare parts (89OT) knife. Skoal knife sides with a replacement Schrade shield. Mismatched blades that seem to be from three different knives judging from the different finishes on all three. The main blade being stainless and the other two being carbon, one shiny and the other mat finished. It's a solid knife and I'm a sucker for green saw-cut delrin and brass. I have the 194OT version and a LB5 Skoal and I'm keeping an eye out for the 36OT with replacement Schrade shield. (They are out there) There are Ducks Unlimited Greenwing knives with Old Timer shields out there too. If I had worked at Schrade there is no telling what kind of crap I'd bring home in my lunchbox.

My first swell center pattern. Craftsman 9494. Could be an Ulster, could be a Schrade Walden. Same difference as they were both being produced in the same factory at the time. More likely an Ulster I think. The early SW 863 had the same swedged blade as the Ulsters. Pretty cool knife!
