Just received this "Colonel Coon" knife made by Adrian Harris and his Tennessee team about 1981. At first, I was dubious because there is no marking on the knife indicating it as a CC knife. The seller referred me to a CC web site where this knife was shown and verified by Tonya Hinch
[Top CC expert] as a true original CC. Mr. Harris himself explains that it is a true Tennessee made CC knife.
"I made the "Iwo Jima" knife for Jim Sargent sometime around 1981. As per his request, there is no mention of Colonel Coon on the knife. We did make a box with a Iwo Jima label. I think we put the new "Old Sarge" logo on it. I forgot. I do remember we made 500 of these." Today this model is evidently hard to come by.

Here is one that I had Leroy Remer (Triple -R-Knives, Lakeside, CA) re-handle for me. It is a Buck Custom 903 Bowie, the handles are Ironwood with red/white/blue micarta spacers. I had this done for my son as a gift, he has his Eagle Scout ceremony this weekend. I like the big 903 bowies, I also have one of the first out of the Buck Custom shop. It is a 903 with extended handle. These were the knives that began the Buck Custom Shop in 1981 with CJ Buck and Byron McKinney researching historical knives for this one. These were made for Cutlery World in 1981 in a series of 100. There are three different versions in the 100, the first 14 (approx.) had the blade catcher inlaid on the spine (like mine), 15-21 the blade catcher was overlaid with rivets, the balance overlaid w/o rivets.

Kulrich wrote:New to this forum but not knives, been heavily involved since 1990, got my first knife in 1976. I really like the Aurum etched knives and just got two new ones recently. They are from the mid 1970's Republic of Texas Series. The first is the 1976 Alamo Bowie (same as Sam Shorte presented to Ronald Regan and is in the Regan Library) and the second is the 1977 Texas Ranger Bowie. Still have a few I am looking for but the hunt is the fun part.
Ok! I quit!
WTF, and how beautiful can collectible knives be? Just so that I don't get in trouble, WTF stands for "Why"?
Every time I find a beautiful knife someone else comes along, and has a MORE beautiful knife!
Does this ever end?
EDIT: THat is a straight up fighter correct? Maybe not pattern wise but reality wise...

This Queen made Colonel Coon arrived yesterday. Everything about it is as it should be: tight and sharp. Tho the photos do not show it very well, the walnut grain is nicely figured. These modern CCs do not disappoint.

Jerryd the 60x also has a currency reader on it a blue led. I don't know exactly what that's for. Do you? Spotting counterfeit bills?

The blue LED is used to detect commercial paper from real bank notes. Commercial paper will glow, and real notes will not.
I also use that same loupe.

So many beauties being shown that I’m glad to be on the next page! Ordered this Bicentennial era US Army commemorative, complete with faux forged blades, from an AAPK store. Made by Imperial, this series has the heaviest built shell-handles I’ve seen. OH
