All About Pocket Knives

The 4 blade Sleeveboard is i think a rare pattern, by any maker. 4 blade Senators (equal end) are common but this 4 blade Sleeveboard is the only one i have ever seen.

Lloyd, those two Robesons are very nice.

Robeson made that NO-RUSTAIN swing-guard hunter with a spear blade, as well. I've never seen a complete example, but own two, both with missing guards and well used.

The Wood Craft knife also was produced as a two bladed knife, the clip and the gouge or chisel.

Roland, here is another four blade sleeveboard from Robeson, though not nearly so elegant as that shown by Joe above.

Charlie, would you agree that a 4 blade Sleeveboard is a rarely seen pattern ? or have i just failed to notice them ?
Do you know of any other USA manufacturer who made this pattern ?

Here's a little "Sunday" knife, for lack of a better term. 2 1/2" closed.

Seems like these Robesons are falling in my lap. Things could be worse.
I really like these so called "Toothpicks". 5" closed.

Joe, the pearl Robeson 'peanut' you post on previous page looks to be the same knife as a Terrier i just posted in the other Robeson thread.

They do appear the same. I think the Terrier is the better knife with fuller blades. Nail nicks are also much larger.

Joe, your attachment picture is ingenious. I never would have thought of such a picture composition.

Pen knives are my favorite and that is a very fine example of both the pattern and the workmanship of vintage USA knives.
You are finding all the best Robesons. Wish i knew where you are shopping !

edit for a question: this knife has no shield. would this have been a less expensive line that those with the Pocketeze shield ?
Or were they not produced during the same time span ?

Here is a knife that is Robeson in name only. It is a Queen made knife and has a glaring and i think unacceptable error. The picture clearly shows what i am referring to.

It has a PocketEze shield, but is not easy on one's pocket.

They make "MasterCraft" shielded knives too, but do not go to the trouble or expense of installing bronze bearings on the ends of the blades.

Understandably, that would be an expensive process.

Queen is an old long established knife manufacturer. I cannot understand why they make seemingly no attempt to accurately use the much respected Robeson name "Pocketeze". They stuck the shield on because a red shield looks good, so it's just 'marketing'.
I am not a Robeson collector but this lack of respect for Robeson knives annoys me. A Pocketeze shield should only be on a knife with sunk joints.

They own the name, "Robeson", but they never endeavored to own the great traditions of Robeson.

They needed a Robeson collector or historian to help them with their pattern selections to reproduce and to ensure accuracy in the details.

They talked to me once at The Blade Show in Atlanta about being a consultant. David Clark had told them they should do so. I declined. I cannot afford to travel back and forth and they had already messed up on their "PocketEze" and "MasterCraft" lines and putting genuine stag on knives that Robeson never did and "reproducing" patterns that Robeson never produced, such as those canoes. I was a bit "done" with them and their efforts by that point.

They should have gotten Tom Kalcevic. He's closer, has more and varied Robeson knives and wrote the books on Robeson history.

I've seen a couple, so Robeson did make them.

Interesting how they covered the backsprings and put that piece of pearl there.

I've got a Robeson four blade pearl handled gentleman's knife with covered backsprings.

What is the material between the pieces of pearl?

The material between the pearl is some sort of plastic. Maybe celluloid.
Wish I had paid closer attention, the frame is "U" shaped and there is a catch bit to allow for a longer spear blade.

Frame is U shaped so spring is on the inside of the U so not a true "covered backspring" ?
