All About Pocket Knives

I only have 3 Swedish knives, and I can attest that the Swedes know good steel! The small barrel knife is a "P Homburg" from Ekilstuna, and the folder is marked as Eka Sweden. It was purchased in a yard sale, and though the blade is very worn from sharpening, it still has alligator snap! I love the handle design: easy to take apart for study.
The Morakniv is brand new, and well worth the $10 I paid for it, even if I haven't used it yet.

I picked this up today

Earlier in the spring we ran into some folks in a state park while bird watching. They were on vacation. As we were leaving I mentioned my interest in the knives made there and mentioned some of the brand names. They were quite surprised that there was an interest here in knives from their country and that I knew several of their brands. They seemed pleased. It was a pleasant conversation.

D.L. Thanks for that post I have met many people from Sweeden in my travels (I have also been there briefly a few years ago). They were all very nice decent people from my experience.

From Denmark, an interesting design.....

EnZo Knives are top quality Scandinavian knives imported directly from Finland. I bought this as a blank blade. I did a cord wrap handle on this one and soaked the para cord in resin and then painted it. I added a paracord Emerson skull for a little extra flair. I put nail polish on the blade to try and etch the blade with vinegar (this worked on my 1st EnZo, which was made from a carbon steel).

The etch did not take, so, this EnZo is some type of stainless. I have not cleaned the nail polish off yet....

The paw print is an actual tracing of one of my dogs' paws, and then reproduced onto some stencils. All and all these make great little hiking/camping knives

I've managed to accumulate these. Fillet knife is my Dad's, I bought it for him many years ago for his birthday, the EKA is a fleamarket find and the Mora was given to me by my son, I think he found a twofer sale and I got one.
I don't know if all the EKA knives are like this one, it's sharp as a razor a holds a edge as good or better than any knife I own.

I just got this Brisa "Kephart" Made in Finland. Has a great Quality feel to it. Thick spine, 80CrV2 steel, with walnut handle and red liners. Comes with a very nice sheath. I am very happy with this new addition to my "Pile" ....

I found out this information on this knife's steel:

80CrV2 steel is a high carbon low alloy steel popularly used in knife making. The name is derived from the major components in its composition, including C for carbon, Cr Chromium, and V vanadium. 80CrV2 is a good steel for knives because it has great toughness, good edge retention, and is easy to sharpen.
The major downside is that it is susceptible to rust but can be managed through proper care. 80CrV2 steel can be considered as High carbon steel as it contains carbon in amounts greater than 0.50%. It is best suited for higher strength applications and where stiffness and hardness are needed and thus makes a great choice for sword blades, survival knives, and tactical knives.

Just picked this up in a pawn shop today, a Finnish bayonet by Hackman Co.. It has a partially obscured "-KE-" inspector's mark on the guard.

Q.S. you said it! And speaking of interesting, that handle looks like something a buddy used to call "snakewood". What type of wood is it? That is a very nice example of a "mora" (if I'm correctly identifying it).

This is a Remington RS3333 Scout Knife. Note the blade etch that says "ZIV - FAGERSTA". I believe Fagersta is an area (city) in Sweden known for iron ore and making steel.

I would be grateful for any, and all, explanations regarding the significance of this blade etch wording.

T-dog, I cannot tell you the type of wood. It may well be your buddy is correct. Birch is often used in that part of world.

Mora is the name of a famous knife brand but I don't believe that is the basic knife. I'll do some research when I get a little more time.

T-dog, my knife was made by Wood Jewel which is north of the Arctic Circle in a small village. The handles are Curly Birch, or sometimes antler.

You can find these and other Scandinavian knives on the web site of Knives of the North.

Y’all are showing some dandies for sure. I’m not familiar with all those brands but imo quality/price point wise, it’s awful hard to beat a Mora fixed blade for a Jack of all trades user. I especially love that laminated steel version.

QS, Your research makes the Wood Jewel knife even more interesting ... I believe in Finland and the Lapland which includes parts of Sweden and Norway, all are in the Artic Circle and the traditional fixed blade is called a "puukko'' knife (in Finnish), so when people call it a "Mora" it is similar to saying "Q-Tip" or Kleenex". None the less you have a very special knife, with an interesting history
