Whittled on a couple of walking sticks today, nice day here in SWV today mid 70's, and a little windy. The Mora Eldris is a great little knife.

Opened a big pile of junk mail with it and did some shredding today.

Used my buck 112 to cut old light grommet off back hoe light. Finely got some clear weather today!!! No rain

I remember staying at a campground on Sebago lake with my family when I was a kid. That was 1965 or 66.

Nice fish, nice knife, nice picture. Being a Midwesterner, I knew nothing of Atlantic Salmon until I read up, after your post. Always great to learn something, thanks for your post.

Thanx Ike Land Locked Salmon are just that land locked and have a different flavor than Atlantic.

Used the scissors on my Victorinox Champion to cut some electrical tape to fix the negative probe on a meter. I'm getting ready to purchase an old, used Marklin train set for cheap; and I know for sure I'll need the electrical meter, my precision toolset, and sandpaper. Given my experience with the American model trains as a teenager, used model trains are a pain in the backside. One can be maintained and run well by an adult, a teen, or even a careful child; others needing hours of work due to poor storage in a damp basement, or a kid who should NOT have been allowed nice things. I'm betting on the worst-case scenario, and have ordered contact shoes, traction tires, and some other parts like the shoe springs, and just in case, motor brushes. A ton of track connectors too, and wiring as well.

So far, the only thing I've not accounted for is the transformer I bought 2-3 years ago. I tested it then, and it seemed to work OK. Don't know about now. That's the most expensive part with these, due to the fact they're naturally heavy and expensive to ship no matter how cheap you find the transformer itself for. And then there's my complete lack of knowledge with three-rail, AC-voltage trains. All I've done is two-rail DC-voltage trains. Guess what I'll have to remember is my industrial electronics training and basic knowledge of home electrical systems.

Thankfully, with their engineering, Maerklin used the KISS principle; going by the schematic for 3080. Not a whole lot of parts, and unlike my old Bachmann EMD F7 or even the old Model Power version of this same loco, there's not a giant lead counterweight blocking access to all mechanical parts.

Sounds like a wonderful project/hobby. Maybe ideal for a time of quarantine.

I will when I get everything set up. I'm actually also glad I didn't order parts as planned. The locomotive doesn't appear to actually be the model I thought it was.

I needed to protect my hard Arkansas stone, after dropping, and breaking my soft one. I had a new bubble mailer I'd bought from the grocery store back in the fall; preparing for some warranty returns I'd never gotten around to, and cut it to size with the pen blade on my Kabar 1081 Stockman. Well, not exactly. I think it was a spey blade someone reprofiled to make a whittling knife; comparing to my other 1081 (which I bought the current one to replace; as the old one had a lazy main blade). That being said, this knife is a shaving razor in terms of sharpness.



The tin is rather old. I'm seeing conflicting information as to what it is for. I know "Antitoxin Syringe"' ; as that's what stamped on it. One place says it was used in WWI; and carried antitoxin for mustard gas; yet another says veterinary from the 1880s. Somehow, it ended up in a box of old livestock medication a relative had given my folks; and my folks proceeded to throw the whole thing out. Before they did, I happened to come across the tin. It is stainless steel (not that cheap pot metal stuff gift tins are made of), and the hinge is spring-loaded. Release the latch, and it springs open immediately. Originally, there would have been clips for the syringe, vial, and needles, but those are missing from mine. For the 5-6 years I've owned it, it's always been a sharpening stone box. I like to use the Teflon mailers the USPS usually uses (since they don't absorb oil); but of course, I don't have access to those, and in the wake of COVID, I toss all packaging materials.

Cut off the deteriorating part, of my "welcome mat" / shoe cleaner, down at the ranch.

I'm gonna steal this

Made a “tater holder” for making (kind of) Hasselback potatoes...a series of close, vertical slices, but short of going all the way through so you get an accordion effect . Normally I use two wooden spoons on either side for a knife stop, but this works pretty well. The next will be deeper, wider, more scalloped on the sides, but this was a fun experiment.
Used my Mastercarver lockblade and sanded.

Thanks, it's all just practice, but still fun.

Today a little scraper for cast iron clean up.

I was re-potting my Aloe Vera plants, and I needed one more small pot for some of the new sprouts.

The boss was potting and repotting some flowers, so I was slicing open sacks of potting soil, peat and garden soil and mixing it up. Also cut some zip ties that was holding the new pots together. Whew, boy am I tired.
